i have a version 1 iphone and i am having some problems. I have to sound at all. ipod or keypad when texting. also every 10 15 min a message pops up on my phone asking me if i want to turn my iphone on to airplane mode. of course i say no but it keeps poping up and I cant seem to get rid of it. Ive turned my phone complety off then back on several times and it still keeps poping up and no sound when turning my phone on and off. Does anyone know how i can fix this. I have not dropped my phone and also have not got any water on it either..
please help

thank you

It thinks it's connected to a dock charger/audio unit. Try connecting and disconnecting a dock connector several times to clean off the contacts. Make sure no dust or lint is trapped in your dock connector.

hey thanks for all the help. the thing is i dont use a dock. when charging it is laying on my bed. there is no dust on the phone and it is in good condition. i wish i could show you what it says. ask me " would you like to turn on airplane mod to reduce audio inteference? its really strange. plus i dont have any sound at all unless the headphones are in but when headphones are in im still getting that message. ive plugged and unpluged the phones and it still doesnt work. how do you do a restore? will i lose everything on my phone?

You can restore by connecting your phone to your computer and in itunes there will be an option that says "restore". make sure you back up your phone before you restore so you dont lose everything.

Before restoring I would try to reset the phone (hold home and lock/unlock button untill you see the phone restart). Also maybe call AT&T and follow prompts for apple support. They may have other fixes for it.

Use restore as a last resort. I'm sure you can get this sorted out without going through that hassle.

When you connect your phone make sure it says backing up. Then disconnect and restore.

is that all it says backing up? or do i need to select that option on itunes?

It should just say backing up once you connect your phone , Im not sure if you can manually make it back up , but if you can then do it.

After you restore its going to ask you to set up as a new iphone or restore from back up ,, select the back up option and you should be good.

When I say connect and disconnect the dock connector, I don't mean the literal dock for the iphone. I just mean plug the charging cable in and out a few times, in attempt to clean off the contacts a bit.

Restoring may help this, but I would definitely try cleaning the dock connectors first.

does it say this device is not ment to work with the iphone or summtin` like that? if so, i had the same problem, and i tried alot of things but nothing seemd to work, until i pluged my headphones in and the problem went away for a few days then it came back, pluged the headphones again. and now it`s gone, it`s been almoust 2 months since the messege is gone

Is this a common-ish fault then? Wierd... i agree it must think its just connected to a dock and therefore pop up the messages asking for input. Have you got a new one yet? http://www.go4apple.com/smile2.jpg

it happens when i'm not connected to the dock or a charger. when i went to show it them(genius bar), the problem didn't occur, so it made me look stupid and crazy then after 20 minutes of leaving the store, it came back. annoying..
