There should be more than one possible answer for this poll. Like for me, I would check off Windows computer & iPhone 3G.

I always use Safari on my Windows laptop, but I do read the thread update emails from my 3G iPhone.

I access mostly through a Windows Vista PC, and then with my iPhone 3G. However, I would like to see an iPhone-specific interface to EIC, especially to the forums. iLounge has a mobile site specific to iPhone and, not only can you read the forums, but you can read most other sections of their site, too. Point your iPhone browser to: http://www.ilounge.com/mobile (http://www.ilounge.com/mobile)

I thought this was an iPhone specific site..?
I'd like an iPhone formatted version too. The 'other place (http://www.modmyifone.com/forums/)' has one, so why not here?
I tend to just catch up by following the RSS in Google reader. If there was an iPhone version I'd use that.

2 things... First, that "other" site is NOTORIOUS for incredible, never ending load times on a computer OR the iPhone.
Second, isn't the beauty of the iPhone that it can "see" normal websites. It might just be me but I hate mobile sites for the most part.
I didn't vote because you don't have a "Mac and PC" category. I access it from home with a Mac and from work with a PC, both about the same amount of time. Maybe 5% of the time from my iPhone.

I am 100% with you on that. I am always annoyed by sites that direct me to fake, mobile versions. If I wanted to visit that watered down page, then I would have used the /mobile URL.
That said, I do 99% of my browsing and posting on EiC from my iPhone. In fact, I rarely take my laptop out of it's bag when I'm at home unless I want to use Google chat or need to get some work done. If we could get Word document editing capabilities I could scale back my need for my PC even more.

I like having the full website. If EiC only had a "iPhone view" I'd sure be here a LOT less. On MMi, I use the regular version, I hate the iPhone view, or wep views. They sucks. Stupid ESPN did this (though you can still opt to get the regular view), NFl, MSN... the list goes on. I hate phone optimized sites.

Maybe EIC has plans for it? Go to ******** and there are hints of the possibility of a mobile site. It appears that the foundation may be in place.

We tried the iPhone version and outside of JJ, everyone hated it. The biggest complaint was, "Why view a mobile version, when I can have the real deal".
Now, what you see is a tweaked version of the original template sans ads.
I have thought of removing the auto-check and allowing people to choose their preferred template.
For the record, we had that iPhone version up before some (not all) of the sites mentioned in this thread.

No, that's a no. There are plans to offer an iPhone friendly frontend, but that will be at www.everythingicafe.com.

Thanks for leaving it alone. Perhaps a choice would appease the masses - but please default it to the normal view we have now, unlike some other sites...
Side note: Chris, whatever happened to multi-quote?
I used to browse it a lot from my iPhone, but Safari viewing even the iPhone-friendly default template was a little more cumbersome than necessary. I would have liked the choice for the iPhone-web-app style as well, if it were left in.
Currently, I browse 90% of the time from Windows and 10% of the time from Mac OS X (hackintosh)

I'm new here and may be missing something, but it seems odd that I can view the 'iPhone friendly' version of these forums using Safari on a Mac but when I choose that option from the 'Quick Style Chooser' on the iPhone it doesn't work (I just get the regular site). What gives?
It forces the style to "iPhone friendly" when you're viewing from an iPhone

It really doesn't on my iPhone! It's all pink and grey and much smaller than green theme that appears on Safari on the Mac when you choose 'iPhone friendly'.
This is how it looks on my iPhone:

EDIT. And here's the desktop version:

Here's what makes that template iPhone friendly:
The text was made bigger.
It's easier to select links.
There are no ads.
It's the "real Internet".
I'm going to look into the option of restoring a "true" iPhone interface. Users will have the option of the standard EIC template made iPhone friendly or one that features an iPhone GUI.

I guess I'm with JJ in liking the iPhone-specific GUI, primarily because they just load faster than the "real" page. Macrumors has one and I use it all the time, as does iLounge (am I allowed to say that here? ;) ). Having a choice would be cool!

Thanks, Chris. On the iPhone I'd prefer the 'true' iPhone interface as I find some of the current hard to read (see the light grey text on dark grey tabs in the first pic in my previous post as an example). The green one I can get to with desktop Safari (second pic above) but not iPhone Safari would be great.
My mistake, it forces it to "iPhone adfree" which is the slightly modified template chris just described. In other words, on an iPhone, it doesn't let you choose another template, it detects your iPhone and simply always spits out the "iPhone adfree" style.
Thanks for looking into that option, chris, I know I'd enjoy that thoroughly. Real internet is good, and all, but I prefer something that caters to the form factor. (Just because it can use the real internet doesn't mean you're not allowed to look at an optimized design  ) - case in point, I'm trying to design an interface for my game that is catered to the iPhone form factor; even though the phone can use the full site, it's a bit of a pain to have to scroll 3 pages and then zoom in, and load all sorts of unnecessary images that don't need to be seen when mobile.

Okay, I've gone ahead and setup a new template that uses the iPhone GUI. It is a work in progress, hence the beta tag.

Since this thread is littered with links to other forums:angry:, I've created a fresh thread to discuss the new template (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/general-discussion/everythingicafe-mobile-template-beta-discussion-35699.html). Comments, suggestions, etc. are welcome.
