An animator named David O'Reilly has made an app he calls "iHologram."
Check out this video:

O'Reilly explains how the animation trick is done on his blog (http://www.davidoreilly.com/blog/). You can also see a better quality Vimeo video there as well.

Yeah, i was going to post an article from gizmodo that said the same thing. Not a real app...not even being developed currently.

I did originally post this in iPhone Software because I knew it wasn't an app just yet. But, I didn't know that the video itself was only a mock-up of a possbile future program. No wonder he was seeking out a programmer.

Well, the designer is still looking for someone to program it with him. So, this won't be a reality in the near future.

there's no way the accelerometer and processor in the iphone can do that... at least not THAT smoothly.
It can barely manage to flip a webpage...

what about games? the accelerometer works fine in racing games...
The accelerometers are extremely sensitive. There was an app very early on that displayed the output from them and it would respond to the slightest movement.

right, but not rotational inertia like in the video.
and i still think the processor would severely cripple an app like this even if they got the accelerometer stuff working.
