I think he's socially awkward... For real. I feel bad for him because he probably has trouble interacting with people.

Right. Just smile and wave.

Guys, seriously, hes like 8. And like Hayes said, he has issues. I'm sure he is on the autistic spectrum. Notice how he has a very hard time making eye contact with the camera? (I'm a special ed teacher).
But the main point is, he's 8!!! Who cares what he thinks???

But when you post a video on the internet, you have to expect criticism and all that entails.

True, but still, the main point is here, you're having issues with what an 8 year old said.
I'm a teacher...I work with many 8 year olds. They all think that because I'm a teacher, I need to be married. Am I gonna believe them and start wondering why I'm not married? No...they're kids. They look at things from a very simple perspective.
And if this kid is on the autistic spectrum, he fixates on certain things. He has probably fixated on the blackberry. It's just the nature of the disorder.
I just think it's sorta funny that everybody is making fun of an 8 year when hes 8. He doesn't have an iphone and probably doesnt even have a blackberry. My guess it, his parents have a blackberry and hes been hearing what they have been saying and posted it on the internet.
Again, 8....

Okay here are the things that I think are funny about this: first of all "Its twice as fast, who cares, everything's twice as fast these days!" - That sounds like something an old person would say! (I just thought that was funny)
"How are you supposed to call someone when you only have one button?" LoL!
Plus, he says the Nintendo DS has two touch screens, and it does not. I wonder what encouraged him to make this video? I feel bad because I'm sure people are leaving him mean messages on youtube.

He also states that he saw an iPhone on eBay for $800, and then goes on to say "Why would AT&T expect customers to pay $800 for this piece of crap iPhone."
Apparently he doesn't know they really sell for $199. I guess he also thinks AT&T makes the iPhone.
And yeah, he is getting some pretty nasty feedback on YouTube. I have to agree with Napoleon though. He can't expect to put that up and not get criticized.

I do believe he has a learning impairment. I also think English might not be his first language, which could explain it a bit more.
Speaking of awkward kids, how about this one? (Sorry for the thread jack)

okay. i think we've had enough of a good time poking fun at people's awkwardness. how do you think you'd feel if people were linking videos of your embarrassing moment in the spotlight. And the guy from the spelling bee obviously isn't properly socialized having been homeschooled. It doesn't make him less of a person. He may one day develop a cure for cancer and do you think the idiosyncrasies would matter then? Its one thing to laugh at a normal person who makes an ass of themselves, don't do it to someone who doesn't know better.

I have to agree with Hayes on this one. It sucks to be a killjoy because I see the humor in all of these. But just because the technology exists to make fun of people all over the world, it doesn't negate the golden rule (in my mind).
Doesn't matter if these folks never read this thread. It's just perpetuating a rather sad style of humor, don't you think?

agreed. its one thing to laugh to oneself while watching it. that can't be helped. its involuntary most of the time. but let's not put them on display and shine the spotlight on them. hell if you wanna make fun of the ramblings of a silly dude, check this out...

Then why add them to a website in which a "comments" section is clearly visible and known? If these people (not necessarily the Spelling Bee kid because he didn't add the video to YouTube from my knowledge) don't want to be criticized or acclaimed for what they do, then they have no business putting it out there.
How is "poking fun" at a person's awkwardness any different than lauding them for a job well done? These videos are open to comments, good or bad.

are you actually condoning being mean to someone for no reason other than they are different? I put videos on youtube all the time. Most are for fun. But that doesn't mean i want someone tearing me apart just to have a laugh at my expense when i've done nothing to them. I'm saying that the kid in the first video can barely complete a sentence it seems. No point in making fun of him. I'm thinking he gets enough of that at school. And the spelling bee kid? I can't believe they even went through with the interview. That is just shady. I woulda wrapped the interview up fast if I'd seen how he was responding.

Personally I don't think parents should be letting their kids put up public videos of themselves at that age. But that's just me and another subject entirely.
I doubt these kids were thinking, "I'm willing to accept whatever response I get to this, honestly and openly" when they uploaded these. They thought, "I'm awesome... I'm gonna show the world!"
They don't fully understand the consequences of their actions at that age. And then all of a sudden they show up in an offtopic section of an iPhone forum with everyone busting on them. I just think it's kinda sad. But by all means, feel free to continue. It's not like I'm gonna stop this sort of thing from happening just because I don't think it's cool.

Now Hayes, you know good and well that not once in my paragraph did I say we should belittle these kids. I said that if people wish to, it's up to them. These people put the material out there and should learn to expect what comes of them. I'll be the first one to get onto someone for ostracizing someone because of their differences and cannot stand when people are overly judgmental; it's just not something I agree with. But at the same time, in the world we live in now, everyone must realize that their actions will warrant comments that are going to be both positive and negative.
Also, I don't see why discussing and/or sharing these videos on a forum is any different than hyperlinking them to a friend in an IM, text or e-mail.

his video is almost as bad as this thread arguing with this 8year old in a cmpletley dffrent website and the fact that he'll never hear a word you say... This is the best we've got for an off topic thread?
