So I was told to be more detailed on how I handle my Apps Crashing.
All Apps crashing.
For over 2 hours I have tried every way I can think of to keep my apps from crashing without a restore.
Performed Hard Reset, still crashing.
Performed Power Off and On, still crashing.
Deleted ALL Apps, unable to insatall new Apps.
Performed Power Off and On, ALL Apps back and still crashing.
Deleted ALL Apps, unable to insatall new Apps.
Performed Hard Reset, All Apps back and still crashing.
Deleted All Apps.
Performed Hard Rest, still crashing and all Apps back.
Deleted All Apps
Performed Power Off and On, all Apps back and still crashing.
Performed Update on One Apps and iPhone locked up.
Performed Hard Reset and after 8 minutes on Apple Logo iPhone Locked again.
Performed Hard Reset and iPhone finally restarted and yes Apps still crashing even after updating App.
Well, only thing left is to restore.
I will wait on restore untill I document it on DVD (Sony Cyber-shot memory stick was full after the 8 minutes (HD) crash, will look for DVD Cam)
Oh and yes this is with 2.0.2
For the people that say a simple reboot fixed it for them, please document it like I will as soon as my wife tells me where my DVD Cam is, because I will be more than glad to take my second iPhone back for a third one.
Good Night. 7am and need sleep, it's been an all nighter with a crashing iPhone. Have to work in a few hours.
Update
I tried to just install an app without deleting and was able to install TRIS (I believe that's what it was), but still crashing
Deleted all Apps again and now can't install Apps.
Well after trying several times with it saying loading and returning to Hom Screen (App Store) I was able to load a new Apps, but by some miracle all Apps are back and it is installing a new App (CannonGame) and still crashing.
Also when I able to access the App store after deleting all Apps it would state that it was installed (on the first attempt after deleting)
BTW
When I updated to 2.0.2 I did a Restore and set it up as a new Phone just to make sure I did not have any issues. The only thing I did after setting up new phone was that I cancelled Backing Up the phone when the phone was syncing.
I have been trying to replicate your apps crashing....I can not. I downloaded 2.0.2 last night.
Just restore it. Frustrating, sure, but that will fix it.

Oh I will, but I just wanted to say that a reboot or deleting and reinstalling Apps didn't work.
I got to go I need SLEEP, almost time for work.
When APPS were crashing with 2.0 release (all the time), simply restarting didn't work for me either. I had to restore, or redownload the apps. Even then, they eventually crashed again. I only use the restart for lag, which seems to happen less frequently. No keyboard lag with 2.0.2. (YET! ).

I restored mine with a new name and did not use back up option when asked. Then I simply synced my iPhone 3G and got my apps back. Mine was even hacked and I lost the pineapple logo thank goodness...and everything works great. But yeah, when it gives you a choice you may want to treat it as a new iPhone under a new name.

It seems even Steve-O himself is admitting it's a known problem and the hopeful fix is coming in September:

Please - Contact Apple first. You'll end up restoring anyway - but until they have a million support cases on the issue they're never going to admit they have a problem. Sort of like the 3G issues...
(And that Steve email thing ... I'll believe it when I see the real Steve post something on the Apple website and not just someone claiming they got an email from Steve.)

Please - Contact Apple first.
Your right, I should contact Apple. I have actually never contacted Apple for any issues since iDay unless it was Hardware related.
I'll check into it.
Can you file a complaint online?

I used to agree with this method of troubleshooting as well. Unfortunately, a restore doesn't seem to help this known issue. And people who are restoring as new devices are losing all sorts of data that's impossible to get back via syncing.
Brandon over at JAIB covered the problem quite well in a great rant recently:

I'd do a low level memory test on that phone. Sounds like it's malfunctioning beyond software glitches.

I had always been against restoring, but with crashing Apps that is all I can do to have working Apps. What I like to know is what I can do to prevent it.
All I did was Update to 2.0.2 as a new phone (Factory Restore). Installed Apps and Contacts. Updated 4 Apps. Listen to Pandora All day at work and wasn't able to open apps at the bar at midnight.
The only option I have is to restore and if he and others say no to restore than what am I to do?

Unfortunately, nothing. It's a real problem, but apparently one that the end-user has little or no control over. That's why Apple is scrambling right now.

True same here, but I could have dealt with lag.

It seems to be after heavy use. Last one was after listening to Pandora for 8 hours and the one before that was driving around town all day looking up stores, driving direction, products, and using GPS all afternoon.

Mine was not after heavy use. I have done 14 restores and setup as new iphone on all of them because for some reason my backup is always corrupt and cannot be used. And that is after backing up the iPhone, which takes hours, yes hours.....
Today, the Genius Bar decided to trade out my iPhone so lets see if that straightens things out. It's kinda funny watching them go thru and try to trouble shoot and doing the SAME things I have been trying to do to get it to work right for over a month now.
I told him I am on everythingicafe.com and that it is listed by several people as problems (simple restart not taking care of it). He said he had never heard of it or everythingicafe.com ....... i recommended he buy a Mac with internet service lol

I started getting that after 2.0.1. iTunes saying file corrupt. I stop using back-ups and always restore as new since I am not really loosing any info.

I responded to your question on JAiB ... but thought I'd respond here as well - here's a copy/paste from that response:
First have you called Apple? If you haven’t then like I said please contact them. It is the job of their support people to work through the issue with you. Realistically if you’re on 2.0.2 - a restore has been found to not help you anyway. Maybe it helps for a little while but not for long as the problem tends to come back.
If you have contacted Apple and they aren’t helping you - try downgrading iTunes from 7.7.1 to plain old 7.7 — so far that seems to be the only actual fix.
This info is from a couple sites that have posted on it, as well as a discussion on the Apple forums. Seems like this may be more of a problem with iTunes itself than with the firmware.
And yes, I'm having the same problem with my Touch. Thankfully my iPhone is still doing ok.

started by Hosticka, some testing has revealed that downgrading to iTunes 7.7 reliably fixes the app crashing issue for certain users.
I have not done this since I am going to call Apple, but researching it. I have one issue with this. Why would it say certain users and why wouldn't Apple jump on it?
Why wouldn't a fix for crashing Apps apply to all user affected by it.
Hosticka advises that following the steps for the fix will work for the time being, and even without non-default apps, the phone functionality and defaults apps work fine. All indications are that a fix is coming soon, though. "I'm heartened that things can and do get fixed," he said.

Well, I called Apple today and you won't believe what I was told. He informed me that because I had 6 pages of Apps was the reason the iPhone was crashing. Thanks alot Apple (1-800-My iPhone).
Anyone else with crashing Apps? How many Apps do you have installed?
I did the downgrade and restored my iPhone. Lets see what happens.

I have had the downgrade (upgrade as I am calling it) to iTunes 7.7 and restored my iPhone - for the past 3 days I have not had any app crashes!!! I have done my best to crash it to make sure it is a software issue since they replaced my iPhone last week. The day after they replaced it, all 3rd party apps crashed and my music was not there, even though it was but the phone would not show it.
So all is well with me for iTunes 7.7.0 !!!

When I upgraded to 2.0.1, it fixed all of my lag issues. Now that I'm running 2.0.2, my lag is actually worse than before! I get apps crashing, even safari has crashed a couple times... and my phone froze once while syncing with itunes. 2.0.2 has gimped my phone :\

It's the iCrash Syndrom, LOL.

The iTunes downgrade to 7.7.0.43 (restore 2.0.2) has been good to me with no more Apps Crashing. It's still have the typing lag every now and then, but it goes away on it's own. As for Safari it still crashes for me after extended use (returns to home screen) I simply just click on Safari and back to where I was. Also, every now and then I don't have sound.

If your using iTunes 7.7.1 try downgrading to 7.7.0 I have not needed to restore since I have performed this. I can't wait for iTunes 8 and update 2.1.

Umm So is there a way to fix this. i have the same problem. i was showing someone the crazy lighter app. it froze and the phone restarted. after that anytime i click on any app it opens and goes right back to the home screen.

Start with a reboot. Try hard reset. Install a new app. Unistall apps (can use iTunes to unstall, which I didn't do) and install new app. Restore. If your just seeing the same thing happen over and over again (apps crashing) then downgrade to 7.7.0 and restore, which was the thing that has worked for me.

You'll have to do a restore. I just reduce the amount of apps on my iPhone after my restore and they are working fine now with the latest iTunes.

All of my apps were working absolutely fine, until I decided to sync apps with my PC.
After that, they all crash. I deleted all of them manually, and when I downloaded and installed another app...all my old apps came back.
Looks like I'm headed for a restore.
