Customizing 3g Iphone

Hello all, I am new to the whole mac movement with my purchase of the new 3g iphone and was wondering, why is it so hard to customize this phone? Let me explain, I have read and seen on the internet where people can change the slider and icons and other things but after researching how they did it, felt lost. This whole jailbreaking thing has me confused, why doesn't apple just sell a customizer that could do all of those things so that non-techinical people like me can have some some fun with my new phone. Just a question, sorry so long, love to read your feedback.

Welcome Tex, ..good question, i would like to customize my phone as well, i just need to get up the courage myself to try it, and right now it seems a bit over my head. There are plenty of people here in the mod section who can probably help you out though.

I hope so, I am little weary of the jailbreak stuff because it says "at your own risk". After spending as much money as I did for this phone, that makes me a little gun shy.

My 3G is running as SMOOTH as silk and I don't want anything to upset that. I got AppleCare which means I'm good for two years. After that, MAYBE I'll jailbreak.

Hopefully before then Apple won't keep up this socialist iPhone society. :laugh2: Hopefully we can customize the look of our home screens within the next year.

i agree with you , apple should make something like that, i like being able to customize my phone and make it unique from anyone else.

To me, Home Screen Customization doesn't have to be as drastic as making your own icons. It should be kind of like the preset themes in Windows XP. Themes made by Apple which represent the different seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, & Winter. Perhaps a metallic Apple theme. White/black iPhone themes. Even Apple IIe, IIc, IIgs (remember those?) themes. Maybe even different moods: happy, sad, excited, mad.

jail breaking is actually pretty simple, and from my knowledge no phone has ever been permanently damaged, the worst case senario is that you have to restore the phone but thats it, google pwn for more info on that, but as far as customizing it you guys are talking to an application available through the jailbreak, and this ap has been having some issues and is also difficult to get onto and working on an iphone. but give it time eventually it will be smoothed out and simple enough for all to do

I came from a BB and it was great being able to change the theme of my phone. I found some great ones too, even once that looked like the iPhone.

Apple could make an application that would allow us to create a theme and then make it so we could install it on the phone. That's what BB does.
