still having problems with cydia. Please help!

So I've been restoring my phone over and over again due to cydia. It's killing me. But there are just apps I want from cydia and installer I can't resist. But before I even finish updating it will freeze or give me the spinning wheel of death leading to me going to DfU mode. So does anybody have any suggestions on how I can jailbreak my 2.0.1 FW iPhone 3g and have no problems.

Just wondering...do y'all install installer and cydia apps on before I put my app store apps on or something?

i would install installer fist..and then hard reboot it..then cydia and then same thing...keep daisy-chainin' it like that..

where do I SSH the Customize.app folder to on 2.0.2? cuz I tried putting it in private/var/applications they didn't even show on screen. Then I noticed that Cydia and BossPrefs I installed thru Cydia were located in private/var/stash/applications so I put them in there they showed on screen but then won't open.
