I unlocked my iPhone, but how do I get the sim cards to work?

Hi, I unlocked my 2G iPhone, but put in a T-Mobile sim card and AT&T 3G sim card and both did not work.

Do I have to install some type of software through Cydia or something?

UPDATE: Uh, I found out that the method that I thought was unlocking my iPhone 2G, was suppose to just jailbreak an iPhone 3G. So I restored, unlocked using the correct method, and ta dah! What a relief

What software did you use to unlock it? If it worked, you wouldn't need to do anything else and it would work with active SIM cards inserted...
