The other day I thought it would be nice to have a wikipedia type page for the best place to find information about specific topics that have answers. Such as making ringtones, I do not know how many times i see the post, "Help with ringtones." Or the "I want to jailbreak, but I don't know how, what is the worst that can happen to my iPhone". I think if people added the best solution, or different solutions if there are many good answers. Then through time it can become THE iPhone knowledge base to answer all your questions.
I did notice on the home page of the EIC, that is a "Wiki" site HERE (http://wiki.everythingicafe.com/?t=anon) but it is not quite was I expecting. Am I going about it wrong?
Any ideas?

Yeah, the Wiki hasn't really taken off and I'm not sure if it'll find it's way into the next site update. The FAQ system is pretty powerful, but it needs to be easier for people to contribute. In defense of the wiki, the software used to drive it is phenomenal. I'm just not sure if people care so much about wiki's as they do forums.

I've never really used the Wiki. I find forums to be more useful.

Well a Wiki is only as useful as the members make it, so if this forum contributed we could have a nice one pretty quickly.

I suppose that when people come to a forum for the first time they are just going to post a question, not really look to see if it has been answered [in a wiki page or FAQ].
What can I do to help make the Wiki take off. I tried using it but I got lost. This would also make it easier if someone does ask a question about, say ringtones, instead of me searching through threads, I can just send them quick link to the wiki page. I am sure that once members see how beneficial this will be, since iPhone is going to be around for a long time, this will be 'great success' (said with Borat accent).
I will be glad to help with this. Even if it isn't the Wiki, just further developing the FAQ and be able to contribute easier this site even better.
Chris, I know you are very busy, take advantage of all the gracious members that would love to help you out.
Bottoms up!

I think the FAQ would be a more ideal place. Right now, I'm busier than ever working on EIC 2.0 (well, it's probably more like 7.0). This has forced me to take a look at what's working here, what can be improved and what can be weeded out. The last time I did this, I introduced the wiki. I'll definitely a hard look at the current wiki, the FAQ system and what's the best option moving forward.
I will definitely need assistance content wise and would welcome some help. From my end, I need to figure out a process that makes it easier for members to contribute and then make sure that people actually find it. If we had a robust FAQ and then had related links in a stickied topic, that might work.
For example, let's say iPhone Modifications. I could certainly set up a "Jailbreak" section in the FAQ. Populate that with FAQ's and then sticky an FAQ topic at the top of iPhone Modifications. Thoughts?

Chris,
I think that would work very well. This would be a great way to to start. This would be fantastic because as members we can send them the link to the FAQ, where it would get more hits and become more popular. This way, new members can get side tracked on the FAQ's, "oh wait, I can make custom ringtones?, I can save images on my phone?"
I think will be good.
