Hello all,
I'm trying to Jailbreak (with pwnage tool) my 3g iphone. It's on version 2.0.1.

I install and run Pwnage, I create the custome ipsw file. I get the phone into DFU mode, but it won't load the custom ipsw.

Itunes hangs up on "preparing iphone software for restore" and gives error 6.

Can anybody help?

Thanks
Donald

It means you aren;t in DFU mode. Search the forum or google on how to get it into DFU mode. It works differently for some people. Some people have to hold down the 2 buttons for 9 seconds instead of 10, etc.

I did see that while searching for solutions. I've tried about 10 times without success. My iTunes says that the phone must be restored. It let's me try to restore to my custom ipsw file but hangs up and gives error 6.

well, the youtube video says to turn off the power before holding the buttons for 10 seconds..... I tried that way.
I also tried with the phone turned on..... both ways have same result. Black screen, message in itunes says it has detected a phone in recovery mode and must be restored.

Itunes lets me select the custom file, then goes through a few minutes of setup and then the error pops up.

Please help!

turn off the phone. hold both buttons for 10 seconds. release the top power button while holding the bottom home button, keep holding the home button for 10 more seconds. release the home button. Use a clock to get as close to 10 seconds for each hold cycle, if you hold for too long, that will mess it up. You never lift your finger off the home button until after the whole process (20 seconds). The iPhone screen will turn black, not show the connect to iTunes graphic. You can do it.
