I just bought some jvc marshmallow headphones, i desoldered the iphone headphones and put the jvc headphones on the iphone cable.

I am pretty damm impressed with the jvc's sound. Its no shure or ultimate ears, but they crush my $65.00 sony in ear sound isolating h-phones. They sound better than the vmoda vibe duo's that i just returned to the apple store.

So far this is my h-phone purchase list.

Nike vapor shj040 Flex ear hook ----> sound so so
Nike shj020 Wrap around -----> bland sound
sennheiser px200 -----> sound good but very bulky
Koss ksc75 -----> Very good sound for cheapies, just ugly
Sony ex75 ---> Thought these sounded great until i heard the jvc's
jvc marshmallows --> Great cheapies / now modded
vmoda vibe --> Sounded no better than the jvc's at 1/10 the price
SkullCandy fmj with iphone button ---> Just ordered for $70 Hope they sound good

How do you rate the difficulty of the mod from 1-5? 1=easiest, 5=hardest

The hard part was figuring out a trick or two nearly after getting it done.

i used a small knife to pry open the jvc headphones at the seam.

The de-soldering was pretty straight forward, just melt and pull.

The re-soldering was a little tougher. I was trying to hold the headphone the wires the soldering gun and the solder piece at the same time.

I found it much easier if you have a small vice or something to hold the headphone down. I used a plastic screw box, i bored a hole through it with the soldering gun and placed the h-phone in it with the back exposed.

Just dont melt the solder for the left and right together like i did.

I had to melt and then scrape it to make sure it did not cross the connections.

Other than that, it was maybe a 2.5 out of 5. It helps to have a really fine soldering iron tip.
