I need help deciding on whether to get a MB or a MBP. I would mainly use it for school and entertainment purposes (i.e. listening to music, watching movies, writing papers, etc.). The price difference would be about $400, which isn't too bad (price difference of top of the line MB and low end MBP with student discount). Thanks for any input.

Are you planning on running any kind of video editing software or anything that is rather memory intensive? I would also consider the size difference. If you want portability then the MB will do you best but if the size really isn't much of a concern (and neither is the $400) I would go for the MBP.
That being said, I went for the MBA because I wanted absolute portability and I love it.

Video editing, no, games, yes. Portability isn't really a concern for me.

Man...that MBA is looking pretty enticing too...hmm

Dang that's a tough call between them then. The MBP is more of a "powerhouse" so I suppose it depends on your time of gameplay. How intensive are the games you play? Do they require a better graphics card?
As far as the MBA, yes they ARE enticing AND incredible. Not that it helps you with a decision.

I would pick the MBP just for the quality of the materials to make it, and for its light up keyboard.

I got a Macbook earlier this year. I did not need a MBP, and I did not want to spend more money for the Air.
I think when you go the Apple Store, and touch the computers and use them, you will know which one is yours. Have you tried them out yet?

I've only been to my "local"(it's 35 miles away) Apple Store once and it was for my iPhone, I didn't really play around with the macs. But I will go back to try out the macs before I make my final decision.

As for how demanding they are, not very (simulation type of games).
LOL, no it doesn't. Oh, and I checked out the CNET review on the MBA and they reported that it was slower than the MB, is that true? And if it is, how much slower?

Yes, the Air is slower than the MB. Binks and Geordisjd both have Air and both have said the slower speed does not bother them at all. On the Apple website you can look up the specs of each computer and compare them. I got the middle of the road white MB since I use it at home as my main computer. But I just use Internet, iphoto, and some word processing for my kids schoolwork. I do not need it for a daily commute, but if I did I would get Air. If I needed to do video or hard core photo editing I would get MBP.

I think it is a good choice, based on what you said you will use it for. Did you go to the Apple store and play with them yet?

Dang, 40 minutes to the nearest Apple? That's rough. Hopefully Apple will be announcing any possible update soon.

Oh duh, I didn't even look to realize you were in Bradenton. I have the Brandon Mall location which is about 10-15 minutes away (when I'm in Tampa) and then International is just a bit further than that.
While in Gainesville however, the closest Apples are either International Plaza or Millenia, not so close.

Cool, I do prefer the International Mall over in Tampa though
Ouch, that sucks
