View Full Version : Silent but deadly email notification

Still sticking with mobile me, even with all it failings I would love to point out a little bug not of ‘mobile me’ but the iphone’s relationship with it. My problem is that when the phone is on silent (no vibrate) there no way of knowing you have a new email (unless I am missing something). As a user of blackberry devices (for work) I am hooked to that little red flashing light whenever a new email arrives. Ok so maybe a flashing red light is not the slickest looking thing on the block but I’d rather know when my push mail arrives. Isn't this the main purpose of instant notification.
Even when I have the phone set to vibrate I often miss the notification, if I have stepped away from my desk for a minute or when it’s my pocket. I find the vibrate is very weak!
Just a little bugbear I thought I’d share.

Interesting...I would not mind something like that, would be nice to know you have any alerts for that matter, ie missed call, text, vmail, email, this would avoid the "why didn't you respond!?" question.
iPhone can not be perfect. Only get really really close.

first of all, this isnt just with mobile me, it is with all email services. If it is set to silent and not vibrate, how else are you going to know you have an email? The only way to fix this is to make an all new iPhone with a little flashing light. Or for Apple to come up with something entirely different.

I totally agree with you. I know crackberry(RIM) has won over the business world and Apple is trying to do the same. If Apple lack little features like these, but are very very practical little features, people are going to look over the appstore, the UI, the sleek design and get the crackberry, because it does what they need it do. IMHO
