View Full Version : Any reason for me and my mom to merge our ATT accounts?
That's essentially the question.
We both have v1 iPhones. There isn't a snowball's chance in hell that she'd pay for my cell phone bill, BUT if it meant some reduction in fees if we had some family plan or something like that, she'd probably be okay with me paying her for my phone and her paying the whole bill.
We both have the bare minimum (450 minutes, and EDGE data package) except I also pay 10$ a month for whatever amount of texts.
Anyway, is there money we'd save by putting our bill together? Would I (or either of us for that matter) have to sign a new contract?
Are there ANY incentives for us merging our accounts?

The cheapest plan for v1 is 60 bucks. Upgrading to 3g will be 70. If you both upgrade to 70, you would be paying 140 respectively, and around that price you can get a decent amount of minutes to share between you two.
Having a family plan on 3G will save you about $10/month over the price of 2 individual plans. You'll probably get about 550 minutes/month. I did that with mine and my wife's phone. The primary line is $50 and the 2nd is $9.99 for the talk part of the plan but you still have to have 2 data plans at $30 each.

Actually don't the family plans jump from 700 to 1400 minutes? so if you were used to 450 minutes, you'd have to share 700, giving you only 350, or go up to 1400 giving you 700 minutes each.
@dcom:
last I checked, family plans with att include 2 lines, so you wouldnt have to pay $9.99 for the adittional line. at least, I think this is the case with 2 iPhones.

They do have a 700 minute family plan but the lowest one is 550 minutes and they go up from there.
They do include 2 lines or more lines but you pay 9.99 for each additional line beyond the primary one. For instance, the one we have is 2 lines and the primary is $50.00 (plus $30 for the data plan) but the 2nd one is 9.99 (also plus $30 for data) for a total of $59.99 for the talk time and $60 for data. The entire plan is $119.99/month. If I wanted a 3rd line, I'd pay an additional $39.99 for data and talk. If I wanted more than 550 minutes to share among the lines, my primary line would be more than $50. Make sense? Go check out www.wireless.att.com (http://www.wireless.att.com) to see what plans they have.
