I know V1 has a water detector mark in the headphone jack. Does the 3G have the same water detector mark, and is there only 1?

My iphone home button has stopped working and I am unaware of any water contact that would have damaged it, but after reading numerous forums I've concluded water may have damaged my iphone. Just want to be sure that water isn't the culprit and my warranty is still in tact.

Get in good light and look down the headphone jack. If it is white you are in good shape. If pinkish red

Looks like im white in the headphone jack. :2cool:

However, when i hold my phone screen up and look at the bottom of the dock at an angle, I see an orange/red dot...is that something that should worry me?

I think you are right. I don't have the 3G and forgot about that.
To the OP that might be an area of concern. Maybe some who has the 3G will chime in.

My screws are the same color as they were originally; i'm just worried about the small orange/red dot at the bottom of the inside of the dock.

My home button is now responsive only when touched on the top left. Apple store here I come!

Well after comparing my iphone 3g with 2 others, I have found that there is INDEED a water detector at the bottom of the dock. I held a light up the bottom of my dock and underneath the bar that a charger hooks up to (sorry don't know the technical term) there is a red dot. On the 2 other 3g's I inspected there are white dots.

Sorry for the bad pic, just wanted everyone to know the area I was describing. Paint was my only 'photo editing' option.

This really bums me out, because I have treated my phone with the utmost care (no water damage or drops) and now will be at the mercy of apple. I rescheduled my genius bar meeting for the end of the week due to some work issues, so hopefully all works out well or I’ll be shelling out a few $'s to repair (if they'll even repair it).

This is correct. I confirmed in another thread that on the 3G there are two liquid damage detectors. One inside the headphone jack, and a screw on the bottom.
