No iChat Buddy List

Whenever I close out of iChat ( red X) how can I get the buddy list open again. I try to click on the icon in the dock but no luck. Is there something that I am not getting.

Press Apple/Command, and , at the same time, select the account you want to use, and uncheck, and then recheck the "Use this account" box.
