Ok so I was over looking my account info with att and I checked to see if I qualified for an upgrade and I read this:

This line is eligible for equipment discount pricing when you sign up for a 2-year service agreement. You can take advantage of our no-commitment pricing option, with the exception of iPhone which requires a 2-year commitment.

Does this mean I can get the new iPhone 3G for $199/299?

It would appear so. They will check again once you're at the store to confirm but seems like you lucked out.

How long do you have to be with them to qualify for an upgrade. I think I've been with At&t for over a year.

so what's your current situation at AT&T? What kind of phone do you have and what's your current plan? (Minutes and rate, extras such as data)

All v1 iPhone users are eligible to upgrade to the 3G iPhone at the discounted price anyway...

A friend of mine actually went to an Apple store today and they had plenty in stock. I suppose it depends on where you are.

An upgrade discount is available after 18 months of your current 2 year contract has transpired. Just an FYI for a future upgrade.

If you plan on selling it on ebay or something, you can make a ton more off of it, if it were jailbroken and unlocked, if its not already.
