I've had my 3G for about 30 hours now (got it friday afternoon) and after charing it all night last night I gave it a normal day of use today and now (at 1:40am, been up since 10am) my battery is still 3/4 full.

Granted I had push off, 3G off (no 3g in my area), and location services off. (wifi was on all day).

My normal day of use is several short phone calls, maybe 1 that's longer then 10 minutes, just a little email use, a few random internet browsing sessions on wifi and edge, and some minor app use.

And if what everyone is saying is true, my battery life will improve a lot over the next week or so.

Same with me, I dont get what all these people are complaining about.

I turned push off (i dont use it)
Play music w/o the EQ (dosent bother me much)
Turn 3g off (if im home or at a friends house)
Turn wifi off (if im driving around at the mall, or not at a place with wifi)
I text way more than i talk.
I do have those brief convo's some like 6-8min.
I also have the occasional internet browsing or youtube browsing sometimes a bit of Pandora.

My phone lasts me for about 30-35hours. I charge it only when i sleep, i dont do any of that midday charging...that stuff can hurt battery life in the long run.

Seriously..... people are complaining because if you DO use the services that apple provides on the new phone (GPS, 3G, etc), the battery life is terrible. I was sitting in a waiting room waiting on my car's emissions and inspection, and was playing around with apps in the app store for about an hour and 10 minutes and the battery dropped about 45%. WTF?

it just depends on what you have on and what you're doing. I have the exact same services on with my 3G that I used on my V1 and my battery life is a LOT better then it was with my V1 (and my V1 wasn't that bad).

Wifi, 3G, bluetooth, push, and location were not meant to all be used at the same time all the time, along with the big power using touch screen. I'm pretty confident that the iphone has a more powerful battery then just about any phone out there, it is just powering so much high end tech you have to be careful how you use it.

I agree but poeple who buy appple products ate very picky people. You have the most valid point I have ever read about the battey life. This phone has so much it can do and it's very powerfull but yet people still complain.
They don't realize that all the things this phone is doing would drain the battery of a normal cell phone battery like crazy. I'd like to see someone with a moderate nokia try and do all the things this phone can do and last an hour.

My battery is better by far than any other cell phone I've used before. I'm 41 and have gone through my share.

Just a little side note: it helps to keep the brightness down with auto turned off.

exactly thats like one of the main factor that drains the batt soo much. i keep it like this :

I have the brightness kinda low with auto turned off, the eq is on, wifi off, push off, services off but 3g ON and boy my battery life is great.

I take it off my charger at 5:30 am when I get up for work and when I get home around 4:30/5pm the battery has always been at about 50 percent. I browse the internet while I'm at work a little bit and use the ipod and talk maybe a good hour and a halfs worth sometimes less ( work related, not chatting while I'm on the clock:tounge:) and my battery never drops below 50 percent. I'm quite happy.
