I want to know the answer to this as well? Anyone know?

No. It would require a third-party client. Which at this time Apple does not allow.
Hopefully they will allow some real third party clients in the future.

they made an app for apple tv so i wouldnt be surprised if someone could make it work. however, an att rep told me using slingbox on ANY of their phones/plans was against the terms of service. just so ya know...they could cut you off if your data useage is ridiculously high

Its in development. Slingbox is not compatible with iPhone yet.

I was wondering the same thing...it would be too cool to catch TV on my iPhone. I am a C.S.I. and it would be informative to watch the local news when I've worked a scene. I'm on night shift and by the time I finish a scene the 11 o' clock news has been over for a long time. And if not Slingbox, what about a television feed on the phone itself like MobiTV or YouTube?[/QUOTE]

I have a slingbox that I use with my Treo 750. Let me just say that Slingbox is painful to use with an EDGE connection. You would have to have the best possible EDGE speed to make it semi-watchable.
Perhaps by the time Sling releases a client, a 3G iPhone will be available.

Okay, then here's my next question, and boy, does this sound stupid to ask. Is it possible to upgrade the current iPhone to 3G from EDGE? Is 3G only via a sim card (which of course, the iPhone doesn't have)? I just hate to put out that kind of money again, but then again, it seems like if you're into this, you just seem to suck it up every two years and get that newer phone anyways. Time to start saving now....I do have a Treo 650 for sale...and an 80 gb iPod...anyone wanna buy? They're both for sale!! LOL

Ericcson is also upgrading the EDGE network to 1mb speed. Here is the article.

No 3G is a different chip(s) inside the phone and the current model doesn't have them. If they did the people who love to dig through all the FCC documents would have pointed it out. We will have to wait for a new iPhone with a 3G chip in it, and then buy a new iPhone.

I have figured out a way to run Slingbox on iPhone ! :2cool:
Here's what you need:
1. Apple iPhone
2. A PC running Windows XP or Vista
3. Slingbox (Connected to your PC with software)
You will need to download a program called TightVNC. This allows you to access your PC from your iPhone's Safari Browser. You must download two files to get this program. You can get them here (http://devices.natetrue.com/iphone/webvnc_binaries.zip) and here (http://devices.natetrue.com/iphone/webvnc_src.zip). They are ZIP files so you will have to extract both ZIP files into the same folder. Once you have done that, go to the folder that you extracted and click on the file WinVNC and run it. If an error message comes up saying "This application failed to start because MSVCR71D.dll was not found. Reinstalling the applicaion may fix the problem." You can get that file here (http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvcr71d). Just extract the files in that ZIP folder into the same folder you extracted the other two files in. Once you have done that, run TightVNC again.(If it didn't work the first time.)
Here's what to do:
1.What you'll first see is a menu with two passwords on it. Erase the passwords already typed in the box and put in your own passwords. Make sure you don't forget the passwords. Then pressthe Apply button on the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
2.Turn off any Fire Walls you have on your computer so this program can connect to the internet.
3. Press the X button or close button on the program window. This will make it shink down into a box with a V in it over by the clock on your computer.
4. Put your mouse over that box and write the number code that pops up. It should look something like this, 192.168.2.102 but it will be a little diffrent.
5. Go to your Safari Web Browser on you iPhone and type in that number you wrote down followed by :5800 . It should look something like this, http://192.168.2.102:5800/ but, it will be a little diffrent because of your code. I reccomend adding the link to your favorites for easy access.
6. It will ask you for a password. Type in the first password that you typed in earlier.
7. You will now be viewing your desktop. Click on the Slingbox program and run Slingbox.
8. You are done ! Now you can watch Slingbox on your iPhone !
You can also use this program to access any other programs and files on your iPhone too !
Wow, this is great information. I have the slingbox and hope that it works. I am hesitant to download anything to the iphone yet. I barely found this forum yesterday. Has anyone else downloaded this program yet? And lastly, can you actually use your home computer from your iphone with this program? I mean, can you just use certain features or is it as if you were in front of your computer?

Interesting program, and it does work... sort of.
It should only work when you are on the same local network as the computer running Slingplayer. What you are seeing is a mirror of the desktop of that computer.
Problem with using it for Slingplayer, in addition to being already in the same location as the computer, is that the program is dreadfully slow even on a good network, so you see worse-than-choppy views of the Sling window. Also, there is no sound.
But the practical application of this for viewing anything else on your desktop is valuable.
If someone else is able to get different results, I would love to know how.

I contacted Sling Media today (11/28) and got the following reply.....
Thank you for contacting Sling Media support.
At this moment we don't support the Apple Phone but, we're working on
it, please keep searching our web site www.slingmedia.com (http://www.slingmedia.com/) because it's
coming soon.
I don't know HOW soon, but at least they are working on it.

Exactly, Slingplayer will be available on the next iPhone which will be 3G and coming out sometime in early summer. That is now a known deal as they have already worked it out. Just as an FYI, slingplayer only works well with a solid connection that is well over traditional EDGE speeds. The 3G model will have HSDPA and will allow for download speeds of ~3Mb/Sec, which is about 20 times faster than AT&T's 2.5G EDGE network.

Thanks for the reply. I won't be getting the 3G model for some time (since I just got my iphone a month ago) so I'm a little disappointed. I wish they had said that on their reply. I'm trying to decide whether or not to buy the slingplayer.... I probably still will, though. I think it'll be worth it even if I can just use it on my laptop. But it would have been soooo cool on the iphone!

You're welcome. But, I agree. I just got mine a month ago too but I knew of the 3G model well in advance (can't say why as I am restricted from disclosing it).
I actually have a slingbox that I no longer use. It is the basic model that will also work if you just plug in your cable line into it (ie analog cable). Let me know if you are interested in buying it as I will gladly sell it to you for $60 dollars. it works great and is good if you want to watch TV from anywhere with a decent internet connection.

Yes I would be interested as long as it's the current basic model that you can plug your TiVo into. It's TiVo I am interested in watching remotely. I'm curious why you don't use it anymore, though.

Hi there, no, the 3G iPhone will be an entirely different beast in itself. You will have to sell your current one and buy the new 3G version once it comes out. I'm in the same boat...:-)
here is an article I found about it:

By: Christopher Meinck (http://www.everythingicafe.com/news/iphone-hardware/3g-iphone-release-months-away-says-at&t-ceo-20080403458/contact/christopher-meinck/) April 3, 2008
AT&T Mobility's CEO Ralph de la Vega, while speaking at a recent AT&T event, confirmed the 3G iPhone is only months away.
He had mentioned that AT&T planned to have all of their smart devices supporting 3G in the next few months. Of course, the current iPhone does not support 3G leading to PC Mag journalist Sash Segan to ask if that included the iPhone. De la Vega responded, "Let me repeat what I said: I think that you're going to see our integrated devices be 3G devices in the not-too-distant future, and I mean months. That should be clear enough."
There have been reports of iPhone shortages (http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/04/02/the-iphone-shortage/), according to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. Either this is a temporary shortage or Apple is clearing out inventory of the current model in anticipation of the newer 3G iPhone. Just last week, a report from Bank of America analyst Scott Craig fueled speculation of the forthcoming 3G iPhone (http://www.everythingicafe.com/news/iphone-hardware/3g-iphone-release-months-away-says-at&t-ceo-20080403458/news/iphone-hardware/3g-iphone-rumors-heating-up-20080329457) saying, ""Our latest channel checks point to a significant production build of a 3G iPhone beginning in the month of June after a initial small build in May." Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference is scheduled for June 9-13 in San Francisco, which many believe will serve as the perfect venue for the announcement.

LOL
