I'd imagine that it were successful, cause supposedly winpwn is the safest jailbreaking/unlocking software out their atleast on the iPhone v1's rep.

2.0 standard is great IF ONLY I could change the TEXT message sound I would be happy. The 5 default sounds we get are very bad. I want something long and loud because I get pages sent to my phone from work. I hate it when it chirps for half a sec when I get a text message. I can't hear it half the time.

I read somewhere how to fix the 1600 error. Check the 2.0.1 threads for the MAC users.

Don't put your phone into DFU mode, that should fix it but no guarantees.

when you build your custom ispw.. make sure the only thing checked is cydia.... do not activate youtube.. or on advanced have activate checked.... THE ONLY THING THAT SHOULD BE CHECKED IS CYDIA...
(this is if your att) which being 3g you are.

Could it be that you followed the instructions to jailbreak AND unlock it when the 3G can only be jailbroken?

i thought this only works for 2g iphone?
It can jailbreak the 3G, it just can't unlock it.

i did everything right, only thing that is checked is cydia. i just get no service when i jailbreak it

I followed these instructions, and successfully jailbroke my 1st gen firmware 2.0 iPhone, but iTunes could not restore it from the backup so I need to undo all of that and do a fresh restore from DFU mode. Gunna wait a little longer until they have this perfected before trying again.

I miscommunicated a bit. The link I posted was only for 2G AKA V1 iphones, not 3Gs. If you used that link of instructions and are having problems then that is most likely why.

I differentiated between the 3G instructions and the V1 instructions in my post here:

If you did the wrong one on your 3G you should be fine, just go through and re-do it with the 3G instructions

if there are any of you with 3g iphones trying to jailbreak using winpwn go to the advance setting when creating your IPSW and UNCHECK activate phone. you will have service after jailbreaking

If you go step by step it works. I missed one section and got confused but figured it out.

The only problem I have is YouTube needs to be activated it says. I'm going to do it again and see what happens.

Did he forget that step, or do I not need to bother with that? Will this let me change the background of the home page?

if your using 3g you do not need that step... are u using winpwn 2.0.0.3?

I've been reading your posts over the last few days and see you are trying to jailbrake your phone for the first time. (or it just seems like it). Good luck and hope it works out for you. I've done the jailbrake since the 1.0.2 (or something close to that).

Just make sure to have a good backup of the phone.

FYI: I got mine working now and have the one thing I missed which was the ability to change teh TEXT MSGS sound. (Seems too simple to go through the jailbrake process but I had to have it)

If your a AT&T Customer, you do not need to select activate iphone in advanced settings. You must creat the ISPW without that selected and it will then work

After reading this thread and assuming that the JB 2.0 is good to go. I'm interested, but what is the benefits of updating it from my FW 1.14? Is it still possible to download apps off installer/cydia? (If the JB does provide it)

Please be specific, are you using the first iphone (sometime called the V1 or 2G) or the new one (the 3G)?

If you have the 3G iphone then as the previous poster said, you do not want the 'activate phone' option checked, you most likely followed the instructions for unlocked a first gen iphone, which would not work on the 3G.

GO to this link and follow the instructions for jailbreaking the 3G iphone. It should (I think) fix the problem. MAKE SURE YOU READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS.

All apps have to be re-coded to work on 2.0, so right now there aren't many apps out there. They will slowly trickle in.
