If you guys have read any of my threads, then you know I'm trying to get an iPhone soon. I'm wondering though; should I buy the original iPhone, or the 3G? Is the original still available through Apple/ATT at all? Because I don't really want to buy something that expensive from eBay, if you know what I mean. I'm wondering if I want to spend the extra $30 a month for a 3G?

I live on the outskirts of Houston, so I'm pretty sure my signal will be decent on both the EDGE network and the 3G network. And also, if I were to buy the original from ATT/Apple, assuming they still sell it, would I be able to get the original price for the data plan?

From what I hear, you can't buy the V1 iPhone anymore. But I'm not sure why that would be true. Although, at WWDC Steve Jobs said they sold of of iPhone's som weeks ago and then introduced the iPhone 3G. So with no meantion of making anymore of them, they may have stopped so people have to buy the more expensive iPhone 3G if they want and iPhone. I'd check with AT&T on that one though.

If it is still available, you will get the original data plan prices with it. The only reason it's more expensive for the iPhone 3G is because of the 3G networks. They charge you more for the faster speeds. I had a Blackberry Pearl before I got my V1 iPhone last year and the internet was $40/month and it was a 3G service. Text messages were also included I think, but not sure, it was about 2 years ago, so it's hard to remember. But that was one advantage of getting an iPhone, I cut the data price in half.
