Wi-Fi Troubles

Im trying to connect my iphone to my houses wireless internet. The only way it works is if i unsecure the wireless, but when i do this...me and my dads wireless on our computers doesnt work.. So it has to be secure, but the password for the router isnt very long. And for some reason my iphone wont let me join without a password being like 8 letters or numbers long. How do i fix this?? would it be as easy of just changing the password?? or what else could be the problem

My home wi-fi password is less than eight characters and works fine.

like mine wont allow me to even select the Join button unless its 8 characters

Are you securing your network with WEP or WPA? Make sure you have selected the right security protocol on your iPhone when logging in to your network - it defaults to WEP, IIRC, and you must forget the network and manually add it to specify that it's using WPA.
