So this is a problem I've had for a few months now. This girl from my past sends me harassing text messages every so often. They aren't threatening or anything but they are quite annoying. I usually try to ignore them but she just keep sending more and more trying to get a rise out of me.

Is there anyway to block a number from texting you? I once heard that number blocking wasn't available on cell phones. Is that true?

And I really don't want to have to change my number over this immature girl.

Thanks in advance.

I think you have to call ATT about that. But that happened to my friend and he had to end up changing is number. This was years ago. They might be able to do it now.

i dont think this is a matter of the phone, rather your att. try calling them to place a block on your line.

Thanks for your quick reply. I'm not necessarily looking for an app. Just wondering if AT&T would block a number. Like I said, I've heard you weren't able to block numbers on a cell phone.

I understand it's not a phone issue. Just hoping to get some advice from my fellow iPhoneions.

Hell hath no fury..........

But really, you're going to have to check with your carrier on that one, see if it is possible to block a number. But even if you blocked her number, wouldn't she just text you from someone elses phone ?

If it gets really bad, to the point where it interrupts your daily life... You could always file a harassment lawsuit against her? It'd certainly make her stop text messaging you, but not sure it's worth it in your eyes. :frown:

I believe that ATT can't block the number.
I have once called them and asked them if they can block a number... and they told me they can't do it.

But it was about a year ago...

They certainly have the ability to block numbers because they make that "service" available as a parental control.

Sorry to hear that. My fiance had the same thing happening to her from one of my ex's and it finally ended up turning into a warrant for harassment to her. It sucks having to do all of it but some girls (guys) need it.

The feature available for parental control only blocks the numbers being dialed from the phone or at least I thought so. I've called them about a similar situation and was told that they couldn't block numbers. My advice would be to save all the messages and bring them in to the police station and file a complaint.

On a more sneaky note ;-) I had this problem from my fiancees ex girlfriend and I used a service available online to spoof my phone number so that the number appearing on her caller id was the sheriffs office number. I had a guy call her threatening to come and arrest her if she didn't stop. Haven't had a problem since!!!

Who the phone can call or text (incoming and outgoing) by blocking or allowing certain numbers
 I think that means being able to block incoming as well? Don't quote me on it, though.

Well I'm speaking based on what I was told when I called ATT about this service for my son. Wouldn't be the first time they said one thing and wrote another. Case in point.... The entire 3g purchase process. :-)

heres what you do....
with a jailbreak on your phone, download the app "Time travel."
Using time travel and time machine, go back in time and kill the harasser.
good luck.

That is perfect. I actually made a ringtone that had no sound and set it at my "stalkers" ringer. But I think for 5$, it worth having total control.

Good find.:laugh2:

A few years back there was an Ericsson phone I used to use. Or maybe the Motorola V series.

Anyway, there was a software function in it that would let you block calls from any number you decided to pop into the function. Very nifty function. I believe there was a choice of total block, or direct to voicemail when the number showed up on your caller ID.

What's funny about that is I actually do work for the Sheriff's Dept. here. I'm a deputy. I just really don't want to turn this into a legal thing.

I was just going to say that. My old Sony Ericsson w810i gave me the options to create a block list, but I don't think you'll consider a new phone or maybe you could add the number on the ericsson and it will still be blocked on the iPhone

She's obviously not real bright. Too funny, stalking a Deputy and harassing him via phone.

No wonder you dumped her, she's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, is she?

Hehe, have some buddies follow her around and pull her over for every little infraction they see. Not using a turn signal, not coming to a complete stop, parking, etc. When she gets enough points on her license (or gets it suspended), she might actually figure out stalking a LEO probably isn't the brightest thing in the world to do.

Just about any carrier will switch your number for free if you're being harassed by someone.

Especially since there is an accessable record of all her texts.

Here is a program I use to block both unwanted phone calls and text messages from disturbing me.

http://www.efficasoft.com/smartblock/index_ppc.html

I realize this does not work on the iPhone, but if enough users express an interest in this program, maybe they'll develop a version for the App Store? Just a thought.
