So, I got my white 16GB iPhone 3G yesterday. I love the thing, 3G is fast, GPS is accurate as hell, applications are very well handled.

This moment it is going through a restore in iTunes though..

I still have my old iPhone for a couple hours until I drop it off with it's new owner, so I turned on Wifi on both "phones" to make sure it isn't a server-wide failure, but it is only happening on the white one.

Every time I click on ANY application, Facebook, Myspace, Career Builder, Weather, etc, it goes to start it, you can see the general outline of the application but no content for a second, then crash, back to the home screen. Ideas?

I tried restarting the phone numerous times, and this has been happening since last night now. Wifi or not, 3G or not, Edge or not, etc.

Hopefully the restore fixes this.

Also, my mail has been having issues. It wouldn't send out at all, but it would receive. It would give me an error like "wrong password" when the mail accounts were synced, and the passwords the same. I confirmed it was synced correctly, and sent mail successfully from the mail application with all of the accounts on my Macbook.

Maybe the 3G is sick?

Hopefully the restore fixes thi, but, help!

Yeah restores usally fix problems like that. I have restored my white 3g 3 times or so. I have realized that the issue im having is with the software and ill have to wait for an update ... but I dont have any of the isses you are having. If the restore doesnt work take it to an apple store and talk to them. You are under warentee. As long as they have the stock they should hand you a new one.

The restore should help. There are some bugs in the 2.0 software causing problems. An update should be out soon to clear most of this up.

It is currently about halfway done syncing my music and mail accounts and applications from my back up, I told it to skip the 3 movies I like to keep on it for now.

I'll let you know in a few minutes if it helped.

What issues are you having?

I guess I am one of the few fortunate ones. I don't have any issues except for a little bit of lag when opening an app. Things aren't as responsive in this area as they used to be.

This is odd.

I just removed all applications and re-downloaded and now it works.

Oh 2.0 <3.......

Do you mean all app for the App Store? If so, this is totally crazy.

I was having problems with anything downloaded from the app-store, not applications such as Calendar.

I re-downloaded the ones I had on prior to the restore, and a few more. Now flawless.

Still email problems though.... =\

I had those funky 'incorrect password' errors when trying to send email my first day with the phone. I ended up setting up my account using the gmail button instead of using 'other' as the directions say to do for IMAP. I still had all of my labels and folders and the account functioned correctly.

I did have other issues, primarily with the Bluetooth radio, that were resolved yesterday when they gave me a new phone. On this one, I set up email the 'right' way and it worked immediately. I think my other phone was just messed up.

If you end up deciding you need to take it in to Apple, get up early in the morning to go online to make your appointment.

There's also been some bugs reported in some of the apps s/he listed as having had installed

I just re-setup a few of my email accounts.

I have:

MobileMe - Only receives
POP (Photography Business) - Only receives
Gmail - Sends and receives

All settings are the equivalent to what my laptop is running, and working with. Every once and a while nothing will receive, if I restart the phone it will receive all fast, but still hold the same sending issues.

The errors:
MobileMe - Tries sending, gives up and simply puts them in the Outbox.
POP - "Incorrect user name or password for "Photography"."
Gmail - None.

I understand I am not the only one with this issue, but, is this a defective iPhone, or defective firmware which the next update will solve?

Quick update, read last post but, MobileMe just gave an error "One of the recipient addresses was invalid."

WTF

Edit:
Me.com online sending and receiving both work.

I had this problem too just a couple days ago. I was trying send an email from one of my verizon accounts & out of the blue it gave me an error, I had to re-enter the password. Not sure why this happened, it had been working before without any problems. Although I had noticed before that after I synced my phone I wasn't receiving any emails. I turned my phone off & turned it back on after a few seconds & it worked again.

Oddly enough every time I re-enter the password it does nothing though =\

I've read the applications crashing thing had to do with apps downloaded from the iPhone. If you uninstall them then reinstall via iTunes while syncing, you should be fine there.

Yes if you are installing from a backup and there is a bug in it you are restoring that same bug. Restore as a new phone but make sure you save your pictures and notes.

I just got off the phone with Apple my wife and I have had issues with out V1 phones with the 2.0 software. Freezing up, applications closing, and on hers sometimes the keyboard will appear at the top of a text message

As for your email problem you might try go to settings>>general>>reset>>reset network settings

i had an issue with my email not working and that solved it

LOL thats funny. Yeah its really important to restore to a new phone not to a backup. Ive restored from a back up once and things went nuts. This was last friday first day I got my 3G. I synced from back up and my battery appeared as a number not as a battery icon. Just weird ass stuff happens.
