Interesting video. I'm not in any 3G zones so I haven't had a chance to test. But interesting findings.

Are you sure the V1 wasn't connected to Wi-Fi or anything? The V1 had custom symbols and the top bar was blurry, but it could also be those websites. Could you do a test with the 3G and V1 to a website like apple.com or lonelyplanet.com?

i just went to apple with both phones, mine on edge, and the 3g on 3g network. i did not make a video of it, but the 3g did load about 3 seconds faster

When I ran my own side-by-side comparison (both had 4 bars signal) of Edge vs. 3G, I noticed the Edge loaded the pages first pretty consistently, loading the text and formatting before the 3G, but the 3G quickly caught up in graphics. Overall page load speeds seemed to coincide with the 2.4x speed improvment that Apple touts.
But I did find it interesting how close they were at loading text, with an slight edge even to, uh, Edge.

I have the V1 iPhone and I noticed some of those websites you opened were optimized for the iPhone. I think the 3G is mainly faster for loading non-optimized websites. My V1 loads web apps and optimized websites extremely fast just like in your video, but I would have to wait a good deal of time before loading a regular website.

i know someone who got the 3g and i have my v1
we compared with a youtube video (flight of the concords) and his owned mine
it had to be at least 2 times (maybe 4 times) faster
i had 5 BARS OF EDGE and his had 4 bars of 3G if i remember correctly
mine was still doing the initializing while his started loading and playing

I did this with my V1 and my wifes 3g and the 3g kills my V1 in our area. It's not even close.

i've noticed that the v1 is better as far as getting bars
3g never seems to have 5 bars but i almost always do with edge

I think the speeds are going to depends on your area. I've used a friend's 3G phone (not iPhone, but 3G) here and it loaded Apple 20 seconds faster than my iPhone. The location where the video was made may not have great 3G reception, or could have been in a spot where the coverage was spotty.

Come on people. Are you seriously trying to say that edge is faster than 3G here? Come on....
