Not currently. However, the "Dev Team" has supposedly jailbroken the 2.0 firmware and will be releasing the method soon.

The 3G iPhone has a built in software that allows AT&T to send a comand to the phone scrambling it, turning it into a brick....if its stolen or a customer cancels the contract they demand that either you return the phone or they send the brick signal and charge you full price.....and even if you leave it turned off your not safe...the iPhone never actually powers completly off......oh the irony....LOL

Yes ..confirmed...this will put a stop from "theives" signing a contract, canceling, and trying to sell it on like Ebay....

i find it hard to believe they can brick it when it's off

ehh, sorta. Not the software, but you cab go back to 1.1.4 and then unlock. It is a royal PITA, as a friend and I did it to my old phone today.
