Need 2 iPhones to have Family Plan? "What if" question.

I currently have a 1st Gen iPhone (since last iDay) and an added line for my son (normal non-iPhone). I heard before last week they might require 2nd Gen iPhone's to only be allowed on Family Plans with other iPhones.

Has anyone successfully upgraded from 1st Gen to iPhone 3G and kept a non-iPhone as the added phone?
