I just bought an iphone 3g from FIDO in Canada under a 3 year agreement. If I break the contract, I am curious whether the IPHONE will work on other networks accross the world.

I still have the 15 day return period so am debating whether to return it or not. The question I want to ask is whether the IPHONE 3G can be unlocked, and whether carriers in the UK and India support it.

If anyone could offer any insight on this, that would be much appreciated.

Thanks

the iphone is being sold in india and uk right now...so i guess it should work. iphone is a gsm phone so, you're good to go. but if you cancel, isn't there a termination fee for you? thats gonna hurt...

Well i know the first iphone could work in India for sure. I would keep the phone and when you go on those trips, just unlock it before and pick up a cheap prepaid sim card.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Isn't there a 15 day grace period within which u can return the iphone? But I think I should check with Fido- there's like a 400$ termination fee which will hurt.

One other thing, does anyone know of places in Toronto where you can unlock the iphone? I don't think I can figure out how to unlock it by myself.

Thanks for your help
