stupid question about charging. please respond

hey guys,
will an older ipod charger work ok for the iphone 3G? I have a few chargers collected over the past few years from different ipods and figured I should use them for something like charging my 3G at work.

I know that i have used my iPod USB cable and plug from my iPod Photo. That charged it. I don't know how good or bad it is for the phone though. I only use it if I know that I am going to need a charger and dont feel like taking it out of my USB hub or dock.

Only use chargers that say will work on iphone. People have had very bad results no doing this. It may work for awhile and you think everything is OK and then BAM.

My other USB cables for my iPods work when attaching to my iPhone 3G. My old docking station I bought for my iPods works with my iPhone 3G.

What DIDN'T work was a car charger/radio transmitter I used to use it for my iPods (a couple years ago when I didn't have an AUX jack in my car). I tried charging it with that, and it wouldn't let me. i threw down $$$ for an iPhone car charger (seems like a necessity, really).

only one that works with new iphone 3g that is safe is the new griffin power jolt with usb hub in the cigarrette charger thing

ipod and iphone chargers are all rated at an out put of 5volts @ 1amp...just make sure its from apple. I dont trust those .99 cent changers.....be smart, dont end up with a brick...
