Just picked up a package in the mail, turns out it was an iphone 3g that my wireless company sent to me.

This is strange as I already bought my iPhone on the 11th in-store. I never asked for a second one.

The iPhone received in the mail is wrapped and in its box. I have no problem if they bill me again for it, I'm happy to have it right now.

My question is whether this phone is activated or if it will just work if plugged into iTunes. The reason I am hesitant to do so is that I do not want to open it should I sell it.

Do you think that this phone was activated and then packaged and mailed to me? I don't know when this could have been activated as I did not get it in-store.

Could this iPhone be unlocked if it was never activated by my wireless carrier? Any info would be helpful as I find myself in a strange situation and I am not sure what to do about it.

Thanks

That is most bizarre. Did you sign up as a direct fulfillment customer? They may have sent it by mistake. I doubt they activated it however if it is still in the protective casing but they probably charged you for it. I would call AT&T and see if they know anything about it.

I seriously doubt that it's been activated. Must be Christmas in July!

I wouldn't do that; they might want it back.
