It should work since you have already paid for the 3G data plan, and EDGE connections are covered by the 3G plan.

A sim from a 3G iPhone will work in an old iPhone just as an old iPhones currently activated sim will work in the 3G iPhone, 3G service and all.

I've already done it. I have two iPhones, one is an activated GoPhone with a $29 plan plus the normal $20 data plan. Second iPhone is the new 3G. I placed my GoPhone sim in the 3G iPhone and was able to access the internet using 3G just as I could with the sim that belongs in the 3G iPhone.

See, 3G service is out there for anyone, all you need is a 3G phone to use it. AT&T is making a bundle by selling us this service and you can still access it with any 3G iPhone no matter what plan you are on.

The hard part for you will be in finding an 3G iPhone without having to activate it first.
