View Full Version : 3rd Party Apps stop working each day?

Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I got my new phone on Sunday and loaded a bunch of 3rd party apps. Monday morning, none of them worked--I click to start, and looks like it will start (the screen changes to the initial app screen), then it abruptly closes. Doesn't happen for the pre-installed apps. So I deleted and reinstalled 2 apps and they worked, soon after, I noticed all of them were working again. Now this morning, same thing--none of the 3rd party apps is working.

Anyone else with a similar story? Anyone know how to resolve it?

Thanks in advance!

Scott

Got same issue with the apps. Happening to all the ones downloaded from the app store.

Restoring isnt really a fix, whats to stop it happening again?

it's like paper said this morning, it's buggy software. I see an update no later than the end of the month.

You've been a member since last June and you think Apple will have an update by the end of this month? If I've learned anything in the last year it's that Apple is absolutely unpredictable when it comes to figuring out when updates are coming.

True and that is why I say by the end of the month latest.

Last year the iPhone was released 6/29 updates as follows

7/31,8/21,9/27,11/12,1/15/08,2/26/08,07/15/08

and where we are now 2.0 7/11/08.

V1 had an update with the first month.

for some reason, its hitting some phones hard than others...which is weird. they need to address power management issues and slow OS issues, plus those apps crashing..which may indeed be the third parties themselves ....

I've had certain apps do this but it stopped just after rebooting the phone.

This is an extremely annoying issue. I have the 16 gb ipod touch 2g and installed 3 pages worth of apps which worked fine on the day of installing but after a few days they look like they are going to boot up but then it just pops right back out to the home screen. None of these apps work now. You guys say the answer is to uninstall then reinstall? That is ridiculous, there is no other fix for this?! Rebooting? How do you reboot the ipod touch?????!!!!

Do you have the latest firmware. It has fixed tons of crashing issues.

I just downloaded the 2.2 update for an iPod touch I bought a week ago. I downloaded all of these apps, and guess what?! None of them work. It's the same symptom. The app starts (seem to) and goes back to the first page. This is bunk good thing I kept the receipt.

I had the exact same issue with my Phone application. Whenever I opened Phone in order to dial a number, or opened Contacts to dial some one, it kept automatically closing down to the home screen. So I did a restore and everything worked again. I recommend a 'start from new' restore though, don't use a backup.

Dam I thought I did something wrong. I downloaded Shazam, it worked for two days and than this morning whenever I tapped on the icon to open it up it would open then close immediately. I just deleted it and reinstalled, it'll be interesting to see how long it works before it starts to crash again.

are you folks getting the apps directly via the iphone, or via itunes and then syncing?

my first time around, i did both and later, all i did was via the iphone.

next thing i knew,m the apps would stop working...

had to do a full restore and now, i just get apps via itunes...

havent had any issues since...

I directly download them from App Store on my iPhone. I only use the 'Applications' in my iTunes so I'd sync them later on if I restore the phone or something. I keep both libraries the same, the one on Mactinosh and the one on Windows. The one on Windows has the Applications I got though, unlike the Mac one.

Have an iPod touch (3 days old), have experienced this problem with third party apps. All apps did not work except pre installed ones. Uninstalled one (pandora) and reinstalled it to find out all apps work fine. I've had to do this 3 times now, not the reset some of you've done but still f'in rediculous.

1st - which firmware are you on? 2.2 fixes a lot these issues.
2nd - although I don't think it really helps - people claim that rebooting your phone will help with this problem as well.

I updated to the 2.2 first day I had it (before I downloaded ANY thing else).

Also, it happened again today, but only the games that are apps did not work. Uninstalled one of the games that did not work and reinstalled it to find all games work again.

Rebooting has never solved the problem, only deleting one of the apps that does not work then reinstalling it seems to fix the problem.

How odd. I have a 3G and I've never had this problem....I'm not a fan of restoring your phone, so I'd dig around a little more. A good site that houses more "techie/modification" minded people is www.modmyi.com. I'd dig around there a little.

Best thing to do is restart your iPhone, it's an issue with your ram.
