Count me in the absolutely impressed category. Phenomenal device and well worth the 27 hour wait I went through to be first in line to get one.

Love it, love it, love it. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that was able to get everything up and running in minutes.
But I'm also really bummed for everyone who hasn't had the same experience. I would be positively homicidal if I was the one suffering from "inability to connect". I hope AT&T can get their poop together soon so everyone can start enjoying their iPhones.

I love mine oh so much! Now, if I were having the activation problems some others are having I may be a little less gleeful.

Hang in there everyone! Your bliss will soon be here!

Count me in the absolutely impressed category. Phenomenal device and well worth the 27 hour wait I went through to be first in line to get one.

If I had not used all of the different smartphones over the last few years, thus having so much to compare it to, I would probably rate it higher. However I have so much to compare it to that I find it a very nice device but not spectacular. I'm glad that I bought it, and it does entertainment in a fantastic way. It takes iPod functionality to the next level with the widesreen display. That's what I like best.

As an entertainment device it's terrific, absolutely the best. As a phone it's mediocre, as an email device it is miserable as you must look at the keyboard and the hard glass surface is tiring and uncomfortable. However if you do not do very much email, then you can get by. I'm used to touch typing very fast and handling 30 to 40 emails a day on my BlackBerry and that would be impossible on the iPhone.

The lack of 3G is a deal breaker as the web experience is very slow and frustrating. My Blackjack provides a far better web experience even if the display is smaller. It's 3G and that is significant.

I am however very excited at the thought of iPhone ver 2.0. I will dump this on eBay and be at the head of the line for the next iPhone. That will be the one to have. Apple has a great track record of working out all the bugs of a first generation product and following it with one that is a keeper.

This model is a good start for a company that lacks experience with phones, mobile email and mobile web. So when viewed that way and if you've never had another smart phone then one would not know any better.

I give Apple credit as this is a good starting point.

I feel for you man.
I know what it's like to spend a lot of money on something I've been hyped about for months and then have it take a huge steaming peanut filled dump right on my face. ( I've been through 7 xbox 360s)
On a lighter note, my IPHONE works great. Was up and running in 4 minutes after opening the box.
I don't really have any complaints, just a wish list.
A2DP & mp3 ringtones.

I have had the following Smartphones:

Treo 600
Treo 650
Cingular 8125
Cingular 8525
Samsung BlackJack
Blackberry 8700

This device destroys them all! I will also comment this...

I went to the Apple Store today to buy a new case and I had a Genius show me how to pull out the SIM, and when he did it says 3G on the Apple only SIM card!!!!! I mentioned this to the Genius (A 10 year veteran of Apple btw) and he smirked and stated yeah I can't really discuss that. I believe we have not seen the last of the 1st gen. iPhone on 3G.

I had very high expectations for the phone and it surpassed them by far. The screen is amazingly colorful and bright. Now i think the 600 dollar price tag is very fair.

I understand what you are saying, but your BB was delivering your mail on EDGE though, right? Most of the city's I'm in have Wifi, so the EDGE doesn't bother me much. And the longer I mess with the keyboard, the more I'm getting comfortable with typing emails quicker and 2-thumbed. If I need to pound a super long one out... I'll get my laptop out. You think if you wait a bit you will get quicker on it?
But yes... iPhone r.2 will be interesting to see... but I highly doubt they will include a physical keyboard.

Sorry, I guess I'm a little cranky tonight; all in good discussion. I'm probably a little biased :2cool: To each his own!

(pm me the link to your auction if you do ebay it though . I want to get an idea of the market on ebay for it! )

I would definetly say this is one of the coolest gadgets I've ever owned. It does a great deal of stuff that I actually find useful when I'm on the go(weather, GOOGLE MAPS is awesome!!). I didn't have any activation or sync problems whatsoever (I've had ATTingular for almost 4 years now), and despite a couple software quirks that can always be fixed via fw updates, I am totally satisfied!

I love the iphone. It is a great new innovative device and I just wish it had 3G. I own a Treo 700P also, and I've had a bunch of phones. It is an excellent start. I am eagerly looking towards the second version. Ebay is our savior. We can all upgrade when it comes.

I am even more satisfied that I thought I would be. I've owned a Treo and about 3 other "smart phones" before that and this leaves them all in the dust. Yes, the edge can be a little slow, but it's more than adequate for checking email and such. For heavy surfing, I'd just wait till I'm in range of a wireless connection. All in all, it is really a joy to use. Yes, I'd like to see a few more things, but all in all, count me as one who will say that Apple has done it again. I would never ever go back to my Treo and if I didn't think I could sell it to someone, I'd toss it off of the nearest bridge.

I can't believe how nice it is! :laugh2: Since replacing the SIM so I could get it activated this morning around 10 AM, I've been playing with it ever since.

Can't believe that all my contact information, email addresses, pictures of contacts, and calendar appointments all synced to the iPhone without a glitch.

Don't know whether I had a bad SIM or whether the activation assistants botched up my activation order last night, but it was worth the 14 hour wait to finally get it working.

I love my iPhone. I was first in line at an At&t store. I think it's awesome to be able to use a phone to post on a forum like im doing now. There are 3 things i'd like to see apple change though.

1. Ability to take video with the camera
2. To be able to text pics or video
3. To be able to add your own ringers and assign them to different contacts

I think apple will add some of these features soon.

I LOVE iPhone!!!!!

Hmm, I wouldn't go that far. So far the consensus is the phone has multiple problems, some being major. You can't text pictures, and receiving one is almost impossible. The ear volume is a huge issue, with mine being so bad it needs replaced. All this on a phone that was suppose to be the best phone ever created? Seems to me like Apple dropped the ball, big time.

Sorry you've had a bad experience! Hey one thing you can do to send pics is everyone in your phonebook that can receive picturemail has an actual picture mail address via their wireless provider. Have them send you one to your EMAIL (just have them add it under their contact for you on whatever phone they have or create a new entry and select that instead of your phone # when they send you a picmail) then you save the ADDRESS it comes from to their contact info in your iPhone. That should work. Give it a try. I do it from my computer all the time, too.

Yes, it's everything the Hype sold us on.

I'm absolutely thrilled with my iPhone.

Which by the way, I don't have a cell phone.
"I've got an iPhone."

~lol~~~

Initially I was frustrated with the activation process,
because my computer is running Windows Vista...
which can be brutal with so many other applications
as well. (Running a simple printer for example.)

But Yes. This iPhone is absolutely cool.

Still learning its personality, and discovering, like a kid,
all of its many features that were never promoted in
the introductory information.

So, anyway... Yes! Love it!

The iPhone is one of the rare technology events that comes along every decade to the make managing your life both easier and fun!

I have owned several smart phones (Nokia E61, Treo 650 and Sony Ericson I910). While they did lots of similar things, you had to go into super geek mode and spend countless hours figuring out how to make them work. God help you if you didn't keep up on the features lest you had to relearn them.

The iPhone is the most intuitive device I have ever used and it's truly a revolution. If I were Blackberry (RIM), I would be very nervous because it's only a matter of time before the iPhone has all the functionally with the bonus of super ease of use.

I am thrilled with my bad little phone!

:laugh2: I love my iphone, I waited 14 hours to get it and it was so worth it! I was the first in line and the first one to get one in Downtown San Diego.
I was also having trubble thru the activation process, it did not recognized my approval code that ATT gave me. So what I did... I just re runed my credit thru itunes and had no problem after that.
I am still learning a lot about it and have a lot of questions, I will look around here and see if I find my answers if not I will ask you guys and maybe you will know.

So I've had over 24 hours to play with my iPhone. 1st in line at the AT&T store in Fishers, IN. Went there at 6am, the only other person was the security guard until noon. Then we officially started the line. Here are some pictures of the campout:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/miarka/sets/72157600556481743/

When I got home, activation only took 3 mins. Reading other people's stories, I hope everyone gets them resolved.

The device is amazing! It has not lost its luster at all. The ease of use is what truly propels this foward, coupled with a brilliant screen and touch capabilities. Sure, it might not be as powerful as a Nokia N95 (which I've owned twice), but the fluidity can not be described. You really need to use the iPhone to understand this.

Yes, there are some shortcomings to the phone: lack of A2DP, can not save files, no video recording, etc. But I think that these features will be added later via a software update. I think people are so used to not being able to "upgrade" their phones or devices. Apple has made that dead simple. We will see new features. Just give it time. For the first convergence device, I am truly amazed. Good job Apple!

That is such a joke to say the blackjack provides a better web experience:tounge:I have one. It is pathetic. I don't care how fast it is, it is not the real internet. I've had almost every smartphone on the market and none compare to iPhone as far as web brosing. None.

Not desperate enough to wait in line 27 hrs (I wouldnt even admit to that), I went in this morning, no line, got my iPhone.
The only things I don't like about it is there is no auto-answer while using BT earpiece, there is fast way to speed dial, and there is no voice dial feature. Those are minor things, however, and the phone is incredible. The EDGE was even good enough to watch a youtube vid with no problems.

we don't want to be charged again for music we own. What we want is to be able to assign a clip of a song we already own as a ring tone.

i love the freaking thing. i just want to get some new stuff figured out.

#1 i want to get custom ring tones working soon, that would be really nice. if this never gets implemented, or does, but its that .99 per one thing or whatever i will be really really mad. Huge step back in my opinion, the last 2 phones i had before this were, make ringtone, bluetooth over, BAM. easy as pie.

#2 it would really be nice to be able to bluetooth pics i take on my iPhone to my macbook, rather then have to email them to myself.

#3 i have had no real issues with earpiece volume, but i dont think all the ringers are loud enough, but i dunno? some are much louder then others.

EDIT:

#4 more landscape features.

I'm loving it! The only question I have so far is: how do I create new (personalized) folders for my e-mail account? I don't want everything to sit in one inbox.

I really like it. I mean it has everything I need (except IM). I am, however, glad that I didn't wait in line. That's pathetic. I mean seriously, waiting in line for a phone?

I saw an interview with some girl who was one of the first to get one at the new york store and the reporter said "so, at the end of the day, you got a phone?" she agrees. he continues, "a really cool phone, but a phone none-the-less." I don't think she got it. I mean seriously, waiting in line, for a phone?

I didn't wait in line. I went done to the Apple store @ 10pm and there was still a lot left over. I'm glad I got 1 cause the web browsing and interface is excellent and the best I have seen. Won't trade it for anything else but just waiting for more updates to make it better.

I believe we have not seen the last of the 1st gen. iPhone on 3G.

when i activated my phone the first time, i made the mistake of activating the sim under my wife's number, well after a weekend of dealing with att reps that thot the sim was an apple sim......i convinced my rep to take a look. we pulled the sim out and just like you said....a blue 3g att sim. just like my wifes razor. he programed a number into the sim and gave me that one, and then game an extra blank one. the programed one worked, so now i have a blank sim for free. i too thot it was funny, that the thing doesnt even say apple on it.

i too love my phone btw
