so, i was really disappointed that at&t now makes you pay $5 per month for 200 text messages with the 3G iphone plans (and if you are too, i encourage you to submit feedback to them here: http://www.wireless.att.com/about/meet_email.jsp). but i learned of a code (from here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=510352)) that will add 1500 text messages to PREMIER (discounts offered to businesses that contract with at&t) accounts for just $8.99 per month. i just called at&t and had them remove the $5 plan and add the $8.99 plan since it's a far better deal. if you have a premier account (with a FAN discount) with at&t, call them ask them to add message plan TMS4.

just thought i'd throw this out there so people can save some money (the 3G iphone 1500 SMS plan offered to the general public costs $15 per month). enjoy! :)

no problem. i just hope some folks here can benefit from it. i had the 1500 SMS plan with my v1 iphone for $10, and i'm also bothered that they increased that with the 3G plans. but this plan code makes it all better! ;)

From what I've read, simply having a FAN number on your account makes you a Premier member, so this code should work for you. I have heard of people needing to call more than once to get a CSR that is knowledgeable/reasonable enough to just add the code to your account without repeating "the iPhone 1500 SMS plan costs $15" ad infinitum.

The code U200 gives you 200 extra minutes a month.

You can also get a discount if you go to College/University or if you work for a fortune 500 company. Just go here and fill it in http://www.att.com/wirelessdiscounts

School discounts vary from 5%-15%

Work discounts are usually 20% and up

Yeah during my McDonalds orientation they said I could go to At&t for and get a discount their on a phone-not sure about plan- but I never called to see if that discount would be applicable toward the iPhone 3G I guess I'll ask to tomorrow. ..

There are absolutely no discounts on the iPhone 3G for customers, only Apple employees (and probably AT&T).

I work for Apple and the new iPhone hasn't even popped up on the Employee Purchase Plan yet! I was told it'd be about a month or so, they have to figure out a way to purchase it from the EPP online site and have it activated in store when it comes in.

I called the AT&T business care number, had them add on my FAN number, the lady who was helping me was really cool with everything, then she added the TMS4 on my line (I have two, the girlfriend has a CrackBerry), and she added the U200 on both lines!!!

I was so psyched! Haha, she even asked me, "Yea, so where did you get all of these codes from?", I just told her my boss gave them to me!

After the representative removed my old text plan and added this one, she mentioned to me that it may or may not actually take effect. She said to call back and have the other one added if this one didn't work.

Not really sure what she means...she could also not have a clue what she's talking about...

Any thoughts?

That's odd - I'm not sure why she would say that. But you can check your account online to make sure it was applied. After a day or two, I logged into my account and the $8.99 SMS plan showed up as a line item when I checked my rate plan and features. I'd suggest you check there first to see if it was applied before calling customer service and risk getting someone clueless who'll tell you that code won't work...

Well I will add my discount info here.. I used to be a manager a Walmart and they offered a discount as well to the monthly bill if you worked there... I quit the hell hole and still get the discount ... so those that work at wally world talk to you personell manager you can get a discount

It stands for Foundation Account Number - it's just the number that AT&T assigns to each business who has a discount arrangement with them. If you've applied a discount to your plan, the name of your company and the FAN show up in the top right of the screen when you log into your account.

(I have a familytalk plan with 2 lines for me and the girlfriend, I've got an iPhone 3G and she has a BlackBerry Curve.)

When I called in, I got this really cool chick, chatted it up with her, got her to add the MST4 on the line that has my iPhone 3G (gf has the Curve so she has unlimited to anyone with AT&T for 4.99 or w/e), she then added the U200 to my phone line, AND then added it to my gf's line as well. So even though we are on a familytalk account, we each get an additional 200 minutes on our lines.

Is the code "TMS4" or "MST4" because the first post has it as "TMS4" and when I called it and gave them that code, AT&T said it was an expired 4 yr old code???

It's definitely TMS4 because it's now on my account. I've heard of people having to call multiple times to get a rep who knows what they're doing and can add it, so you may want to try again...

The rep even told me that TMS4 code will not work on the iPhone 3G so I had to get the 1500 for $15 or the unlimited for $20.

So I called again and was told that a FAN number on my account did not make it a Premier accout but just gave me a discount. So since my account was not considered a premier then that is why the TMS4 code was not showing up on the list of features that could be added to my account.

Does anyone know if you can have a FAN number not be considered a Premier customer?

holy crap, it freakin worked!

3rd times a charm. it seems to be the lucky number. maybe they are keeping a record of how many times you call. i called this morning and got the tms4 code added like if it was nothing. first person said it was only for business accounts where the business pays for your phone usage. second person said its an expired code. third lady must have checked it out because it took 5 minutes of me being on a silent hold (i had to check my phone and make sure she didnt hang up) but it was worth it.

im so stoked. thanks guys for whoever discovered this. :laugh2:

Nice...Like I said, if the rep doesn't do it, don't get frustrated. Just politely accept their answer and then just call right back. It was very easy for me to have the extra 200 minutes added on my account, but had a tough time getting the text messages added. I got the "speal" about the codes being expired as well, and kind of gave the dumb voice and said well, I just got this email from my boss...all my co-workers have it, LOL...

It's also how you present yourself. I always strike up a conversation with the rep while they have me waiting, just small talk, or ask them how their day is going or the weather, W/E...

yes. i have a guy "on the inside" and he's looked up every code he could find and was unable to find tms4 because it is a business code and the stores can only search regular codes. I showed him the tms4 and he was blown away, even showed his manager cuz he's been searching for it himself.

you pretty much need to call for it, stores wont be able to help.

hahaha, thanks. i think theres a "thanks" button on the bottom near "reply with quote" you have to be logged on

oh and one more thing for those constantly calling. they do keep a record of your calls!! my at&t guy saw all the comments customer support posted to my account. just be aware of that when you call one after another after another because they can see that. :eek:

one said "customer asked about text messaging plan that does not exist, advised about 200, 1500, and unlimited"

So I just went on and applied for my premier account through my university (which I didn't even know I could do until I read this thread, thank you very much!) They don't tell you what the discount is, I would guess it could vary depending on the company the discount is with but anybody have any idea what they tend to be?

first to attempt to answer your question...generally, the discount ranges from 5% to 20% on voice plans depending on the company/school. at least thats what i've seen with my friends and their various schools/companies.

to jump back onto the thread topic...

I called 611 (first attempt) and told the young lady on the other end of the line that i would liek to add two "feature codes" to my account. she asked for the first one, and i figured the "TMS4" would be harder to aquire...so i told her. after about 10 minutes of her checking if it was still valid and if it would be applicable with my iphone service plan and whatever else she wanted to do, she applied it. Through all of this, i was very patient and said "please" and "thank you" as many times as grammar would allow. and after she was done with that, i asked if she could look up one more code for me and told her the "U200" code. As soon as it rolled off my tongue, she was like "thats for bonus minutes, right?" I said yes and she added it in like 15 seconds! haha. and that was my experience with adding the two codes on the first attempt!

After trying over 10 times, I finally got the TMS4 code. Thanks.

Now I have an issue. On the same day that I got the TMS4 code, I jb my 3G phone. Now I am not getting any MMS only SMS. I wanted to know anyone who got the TMS4 code added to their account, do you still get MMS or not?

Trying to figure out if the TMS4 code or the jb is what not allowing me to get MMS.

I used the TMS4 code and I noticed that right after that I was not getting the message sending me to the link viewmymessages any time someone sent me a picture text. After calling many times and talking to some folks that argued with me that it was impossible to get a text with that link, I was sent to Apple support and then conferenced with ATT technical support. The final answer was that the TMS4 is an old code that gives you only TEXT and does not work with picture text with the iPhone and that is why I stop getting those. So if you care about receiving pictures, then you might not want to use the TMS4 code.

After 35 min hold, the woman who answered put me on hold again for a few minutes and then came back and claimed that "no one there has heard of such a code". After some prodding on my part she entered the code anyway and said it didn't work. It would be helpful if someone could post the exact wording they used to get this added. I was nice to the woman on the phone, but said that I would call back again another time.

just fyi, try and be nice to the people that work at an at&t wireless store. they have the power to add minutes like its air. i have a guy i go to all the time and he said if i ever need more minutes to just go to him and he'll adjust it.

btw i got my first regular phone bill. 69 bucks/month for 450 rollover, 1500 text, and unlimited iphone data. i used the tms4 code plus the company discount (since it works now compared to not working with the 2g plan).

The U200 works for sure and it sounds like TMS4 works as well so I guess I'll go for that one.
Doesn't it only save $1 a month?
It costs $10 extra a month to get 1500 text but TMS4 is $8.99?

With the 3G iPhone plans, 1500 text messages cost $15. I think it was $10 for the same number of messages for the first-generation iPhone plans. So, this code is really most useful for those with 3G iPhone plans.

I added the u200 to my account today. I have never had any problems getting feature codes added. In my opinion I think that is really about how you phrase what you are saying. " I would like to added a feature code to my account?" I tell them the code they will either add it or give you **** at this point. I then explain that I received this code from my co workers who have the code on there account. Do not forget to mention that you know this code is possible since you are a premier account holder.

I have read on hofo that some people added these codes but they weren't really in school or worked for a certain company. I think some of them had them removed a month later and some were able to keep the codes working. How would you get At&t to add some codes that you have to be a premier member for if you don't have a valid email address for one of the companies that they support?

Yes my wife has a fan discount and she gets a 24% discount saves up almost 50bucks a month was def worth the upgrade for us
