Lets find out just how long the wait times were for the iPhone 3G. Don't count the time it took to work with the sales people to activate, just time waiting to get to the counter. Post a reply with the time, location and date.

I waited just 15 minutes in Grand Junction, CO on Saturday ad go the last 16GB they had.

I got to the AT&T at 8:00 PM on Thursday because that was the time I thought the store closed. Turns out they closed at 9:00 PM so I got some funny looks from people for waiting on the outside of an open store. I waited from 8 PM-8 AM for a total of 12 hours and I was the first one in and out of the AT&T with my iPhone.

Location: AT&T in Brandon, FL
Date: July 10- July 11
Total Time: 12 Hours

Showed up at an AT&T store at 7:15 AM...waited until 9:00 and was told that they only had four white 16 gb's left and that they'd be moving into the "order fulfillment" stage. I left.

Went to the local Apple store at 1:30 PM and got my iPhone around 4 PM. Consistent line of about 200 people. HOWEVER, a local TV news anchorwoman didn't wait in line at all...let her right in. GRRRRRRR.......

Multiple answers:

1. Waited one hour on line at the AT&T in Oldsmar, FL before I realized that not only didn't they have enough phones for me to get one but that at the rate of 6 activations per hour (only 6 people came out in that time), I would get mine around 6pm. I left.

2. Waited 1 hour at the Brandon, FL Apple Store only to find that they only had 16G white. Thought about it briefly and passed.

3. Got into line at the Apple Store in Tampa, FL at 9pm and at 12:30 walked out with my 16G Black. Total activation time was 10 minutes.

It took an hour for them to activate the phones?

Also, the poll is showing a pretty sweet Bell Curve.

People that waited for the weekend to buy, was there still a wait?
Except for Upload, who answered my question about this, thank you.

iFrustrated & iMad, I got on the line at the Apple store at about 8 am. There was already a **** load of people on the line. When I say **** loads, truck loads of people. I think I was like somewhere is the 300-350th person in the line. What a nightmare. I waited about 4 hours and I got tired, frustrated and upset and left because the activation process is so rediculious. on iDay, the servers were so slow and I heard at one point, the servers went out for a while. The wait time this time around was too much. On a day like Friday, the employees should of been trained to help people faster. There were alot of apple reps standing around doing ****.
The whole activation process is so retarded. Look up your account, since im with att and selected text messages, pay, hook it up to a computer and wait......wait......wait......then 2 minutes later....no service turns to ATT....thats it....WOW..............i took a total of 10 mintues to get the phone up and running, but waited 8 hours again today(saturday). I gave up on Friday, the line was moving slower than a snail. So I came back today and waited 8 hours. I dont understand why it had to be such a hard process.

sorry guys and gyal, I just had to vent a little. Alot of people were having problem getting the iphone, like the couple in front of me on the line. They had something on there account that they did not know about, some thing about them being eligable for a discount of some sort. When they dont know anything about it. Apparently ATT thought that the people owned a business and they were suppose to get a discount when they didnt own a business or belong to and kind of partnership. The guy called att before and said that the removed it, only for him to wait 8 hours and to find out att did ****. I mean its not Apples fault but damn....they need better service on there part.

On the lighter side, I did get my 16GB black. The also gave out water and twizzlers and icee's...which was a nice touch. i understand Apple wanting everyone to have a personalized experience getting the phone but on busy opening day and after....the faster the better.

Thanks for reading.....iPhone 3G rocks..........

Well here is my story. I went to the ATT store which told me they should have plenty Friday after work. Sold out. I was all for just waiting a week or so until the hype died down to get one. I have a tilt and I love it anyway.

A friend came in from out of town and was really stoked about seeing the phone I got friday. I had to inform them I didn't get it. So they called they four apple stored around my are (detroit) and found only one store with them. Drove about 45 mins, then waited about 3 hours to get to the sales lady.

The sales girl was a complete bitter worker. Asked me all the questions she had to. I assured her I called 10 mins previously and ATT told me I was good. I told her I wanted the white phone and she goes and gets it. I have debit card and ID in hand when she gets back. She looks at it and asks if I have a government issued ID because that was not and I need to have a license. I was using a police ID. I had to inform her that a police ID is govt issue, where else would it come from? So she is like, ok I didnt really look at it.
When she scans the barcode in and waits for the activation she says *this probably wont be as easy as you think so be prepared to keep me busy for 45 mins* I was like...I will be your fastest customer today! Sure enough, went right through and she was finally able to crack a smile.

On a side note..while standing waiting or activation, an older guy who had just gotten his new iphone whte 16Gig dropped it and cracked the screen. OOPS

I got to the AT&T store in Woodland, CA at about 5:30AM on Friday and was 9th in line, but became 10th when the girlfriend of the guy in front of me joined him. (I didn't make a big deal of it because I didn't think there was any chance it would impact my ability to get a phone and I totally would have done the same thing if I'd had someone who would wait for me.)

They let in eight people at 8:00. Then one person at a time as others finished. I got what I wanted (16gig white), but they ran out of iPhones while I was still at the counter.

Well after calling the local AT&T near me, knew based on the prior year that "only 16GB white left" meant it's all over. Stopped by later in afternoon and rep said come back tomorrow morning.

Called the Paramus, NJ Apple Store. At noon the line was a hundred. Called again at 2:00, line was up to 200. Asked the woman if she was "optimistic" they had enough. She answered, "Do you feel optimistic?" and I laughed and said thanks.

Had the urge after a nice evening to end by going to the flagship 5th Avenue store. Tried to call first but it was busy and decided not to keep trying and just go. Parked my car just down the block on Madison Avenue. Feeling like a king to park so close, walk up 58th Street toward 5th and see the end of the line. Get there to hear they are cutting it off, maybe 400 people in line at 1:00 AM. Apple Rep says to another, "Start the 7:00 AM line there" pointing 40 feet behind the "closed" line. I bolt.

Next morning up at 8:00, walk over to the AT&T store around 8:45 and there are about 30 people waiting for the 9:00 opening. Minutes before opening, Rep comes out and says, awaiting delivery sometime before 5:00 and only 8GB available. Says they will take fulfillment orders (2-10 biz days). Bolt.

Now I'm heading to my car. I have the Paramus store address in my GPS. But I get this intuition to not go there. Instead I start thinking Short Hills NJ Apple Store. But the GPS is already set. Still getting that feeling. Shut off the GPS and head to Short Hills Mall. Get there about 15 minutes to 10 when the Apple Store opens. Less than 20 people in the line.

I'm in the store in 30 and out in less than an hour. Had to pick up a case. Picked a neoprene Spportsuit Convertible as I wanted a clip. Good concept with a terrible design. Wraps around the phone like a bad fitting condom. Has a mesh covering the bottom to serve what purpose I have no idea as it blocks the bottom connection. Has a thick plastic that doesn't let you get the feel for the screen although it works. May keep it for the clip that goes well onto my indoor New Balance bike. It'll clip on the bookrest on the computer.

Went back to the AT&T store to look at their more limited 3G cases. AT&T has their own leather case that is really the Casemate case I liked but this one doesn't have the clip. Wish it did but know from the first iPhone that the two times I dropped the phone the leather case did the job. When I sold it, the phone had no scratches.

Couldn't imagine the disaster awaiting without a case. I love the AT&T Casemate signature leather case. It feels better in your hand and pocket with the changes Apple made to the design. That little curve makes all the difference. That hard leather case is good for protection.

Hi all, new here, and new iphone user. I decided to ditch the iphone wanna-be's[Sprint Instinct] and switch to AT&T to get the iphone, even though I do not like AT&T[I hate their prices]. I went to the local Mall in Milwaukee, and I almost went to the apple store until I saw the huge line[like a couple hundred] and went to AT&T instead. I was surprised to see only 22 people in line there. I waited almost 3 hours before I got to see my black 16G iphone. I got nervous and almost left but lucky for me the guy behind me convince me to wait in line. I thought about just leaving since after 1 1/2 hours, only 4 people got their phone and left with it. I was also nervous that they might run out and the first AT&T guy told us he didn't know if they had enough. Then a second guy came over to get info from us, assured us there's plenty for all.

First time I ever waited this long for anything, and again, thanks to that guy[who has the first gen iphone], told me it will be worth the wait. Now I got my nice shiny new iphone. I'm kind of surprise that more people didn't go to the AT&T stand, but from what I've heard all those people waiting at the Apple store were pretty much guarantee a iphone even though the line was very long. No, I didn't get the iphone to be cool or whatever, I'm just that guy that loves gadgets and even after 3 days of playing with the phone, I am still trying to research it more and want to know more about the phone. I got bored with the Instinct after 2 days.

I only had to wait from 4 AM to 8 AM to be the first one out of a local AT&T store with an iPhone 3G :D

1-4 hours is a huge window. I definitely didn't wait 1 hour.

I waited in two lines - one at AT&T and finally at the Apple Store. I included all the time I used driving around to see if it was stock at different stores. For me, it was about 7 hours.
