Been using since 7:30 and Yeah, been on 3G only...testing.
Obvious probably, but do you permanently turn GPS off with the 'locate' switch in settings???
Gonna need to get that external battery case for sure....another $100 bucks ...ouch!

Took the iphone off the charger at about 730 am. By 1230 i was down to 20%. I dont care what is turned on, that is pathetic. I hope a few cycles fixes the issue becuase that is simply unecptable. A deal breaker for me.

how do you check to see how much % life is left on the battery?

I cant find anyway to show that, but I got a pop warning that my battery was at 20%.

You get a warning at 20% and at 10% battery charge.

so rockky is guesstimating how much batt life he has then?

Probably so.

With Li-Ion batteries, I believe it takes a few cycles of draining (at different levels of discharge) and recharging in order to get optimum life out of them.

The 'juice pack' for 3G is headlined.
They more than double the battery life.

First Full Test. Took of charger 11. To work at 2. Lunch at 7.

This is with wifi on, but not connected. Got 8 hours standby, about 4 hours of browsing 3G and 30 minutes of talk time.

Recharging for Lunch. I can be Happy with this.

Here's an article about how to get the MOST out of your battery:

I dont agree with the charging.

A unique drawback of the Li-ion battery is that its life span is dependent upon aging from time of manufacturing (shelf life) regardless of whether it was charged, and not just on the number of charge/discharge cycles. So an older battery will not last as long as a new battery due solely to its age, unlike other batteries. This drawback is not widely published.

A stand-alone Li-ion cell must never be discharged below a certain voltage to avoid irreversible damage. Therefore all Li-ion battery systems are equipped with a circuit that shuts down the system when the battery is discharged below the predefined threshold. It should thus be impossible to "deep discharge" the battery in a properly designed system during normal use. This is also one of the reasons Li-ion cells are rarely sold as such to consumers, but only as finished batteries designed to fit a particular system.

Li-ion batteries can even go into a state that is known as deep discharge. At this point, the battery may take a very long time to recharge. For example, a laptop battery that normally charges fully in 3 hours may take up to 42 hours to recharge. Or the deep discharge state may be so severe that the battery will never come back to life. Deep discharging only takes place when products with rechargeable batteries are left unused for extended periods of time (often 2 or more years) or when they are fully discharged so often that they can no longer hold a charge. This makes Li-ion batteries unsuitable for back-up applications where they may become completely discharged.

If you used you phone surfing for 3 hours on 3G then you are getting the battery life that apple said you would. In fact your are getting slightly better then what they predicted.

when i first got m 3g, the battery was gone probably through 3/4 of the day. now i turn off the 3g signal unless i really plan to do some surfing on the net. since i've done that, i've gone through the whole day, and i'm still at 93% charge! i saw that it even gave a warning when turning on the 3g signal "battery may drain faster"

i hope that there will be a quick app that allows us to change 3g on and off from the home screen instead of goin into settings

Great idea! I'll second that.

PC World has an article about the 3G battery life being just as good as it's 3G competitors. Sorry can't cut & paste. :laugh2:

Sorry, but I can't cosign the "Gotta run the battery few a few cycles" theory. That would be the first product of a bajillion or so that I have that is THIS BAD out of the box. This is the performance I would expect to see from a DEFECTIVE battery.

I am going to try some power management strategies here, but I'm not happy with the battery life AT ALL at this point.
