I had been trying it out the whole day.. takes good 5-10 minutes to discover my location (sometimes never)and even if shows up then the pointer thing is not flowing smoothly.. I was in the bus near to the window and the bus was going smoothly not stopping.. but the pointer was stopping for 2-3secs to even 10 secs before it moves further...:frown: very disappointing...
In short:
1.the accuracy of the movement was wrong by 50-100 feet atleast by 90% of the times.. and MOREOVER..
2.the movement wasnt smooth.... so I am thinking that its the busy day for att 3g network and would give it a shot again...
My area has 3G but I wasnt getting great speeds until late night.
Anyone else is facing similar issues?
Sorry I have discussed this in other non gps forum but thought to make a new thread as it will cover more people now...
Thanks in advance!

Haven't had a chance to try it out / monitor it as much as you, but in limited tries so far, not very impressed. It is a couple miles off in Maps app on my current location more often than not and location-aware apps seem slow to pick up current location properly ...

Always worked fine when I'm outdoors. Even worked well when I was stuck in traffic in my car.
When the triangulation wasn't working as well was in a mall and in my apartment. Still, I haven't had the 5 minute load times you speak of the choppiness.

Same here. I cant get the map to stop searching for my location as long as im indoors but in the car, it works.

Even when I'm indoors, the triangulation is bigger - like the v1 Google Maps.

GPS has worked perfectly for me so far using EDGE and 3G.

I live in a 3G area :) but I used it last night as I drove home from Blockbuster. It worked fine updating as I drove. I finds me find sitting in my house as well. I'll try it again when I 'm out today.
When you are indoors, you likely aren't able to receive the GPS signal. When that happens, the iPhone goes back to the V1-style cell/WiFi triangulation.
As far as an error of 50-100 feet - that's reasonable for GPS.

Saverino said his GPS is right on top of him. Interesting.

Last night coming home from the store, the GPS showed me in the correct half of the driveway. No joke.

...the same reason XM and Sirrus have trouble indoors.
The GPS uses a constellation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_constellation) of at least 24 (32 by March 2008) Medium Earth Orbit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medium_Earth_Orbit) satellites (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite) that transmit precise microwave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microwave) signals, that enable GPS receivers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Receiver_%28radio%29) to determine their location (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographic_location), speed, direction, and time.

Same here.......i think we need to give it a few days for the bugs to b worked out and a time when millions of people aren't trying it at the same moment.......
