Anyone having GPS issues? Mine doesnt seem to want to show me a blue dot consistently. Ive seem it once or twice but then poof, its gawn. Im in the Northwest Burbs of Chicago.
I dont have any 3G signal, but Ive tried this with 3G on and off, and WiFi on and off... same results. I thought GPS would work without a signal at all? I mean, its a whole seperate chip isnt it. Does it matter what my 3G signal is??

mines was kind of acting up but I just tried it again and I got like a house off my real house , maybe even a lil closer, so I'd say its pretty good right now.

I tested mine on the way home from the Apple store and it nailed exactly where I was every single time I tried it.

i was reading that it works best outside, not in doors. i was trying to do it in my house and it didnt work to well, took the dog for a walk later at night and got it perfect.

If you are using Google Maps, then you'll need an internet connection. That's where the maps come from. You can get a GPS signal without WiFi or 3G or EDGE or GPRS, but unless you have maps stored locally on your device (as some mapping apps do), they'll have to come from somewhere else, like over the intenet.

Makes sense. Ill try mine tomorrow when Im out of the house and see what happens.
Some uber-GPS units can receive a GPS signal indoors.. The iPhone is apparently not in that class - pretty much as expected.
Being able to receive a GPS signal indoors also is very dependent on what the building you are in is made of and how much building is between the phone and sky. A wood frame house would be much better than a 10 story metal building, for example.

i think GPS inside is useless... you know where you are

It could be useful when in a ginormous parking structure--to be able to find your car. How about in a huge shopping mall? You could split up from your family/group/yourself and return to the proper location at a later time.

I agree there isnt much need for GPS indoors, other than what eye-Fone mentioned. I was just testing it. Since Im in a woodframed house and in a pretty open area, I assumed I would be easily locatable. But I guess not. I havent left the house yet today, but Im about to head to a friends house. Im going to locate me when I get in the car and see what happens.

Well, I still cant get it to work in my house, but I took a drive today and it was spot on all the way there. Very nice indeed.

The gps on this is very impressive. I've found it works perfect every time if you are outside. Inside, sometimes it pinpoints sometimes it doesn't. I just cant wait till some company, and I have heard of a couple trying to do it, create a gps app. If apple lets them.

its a chip yes but it relies on satellite connection, so maybe your not in a good area as far as a direct connection to a satellite
