I waited 17 hours and still no activation. Someone on here told me about this. Just take a paper clip and stick it in the small whole in the top of the iphone, and pop out the SIM card. Go to AT&T and tell them your still not activated and you want a new SIM card. Just put the new SIM card back in your iphone, place it back in the cradle and let it reconnect to iTUnes. Just start the activation process all over again, and BAM!! it will turn it on right away!

YOUR SIMCARD MAY BE DEFECTIVE!! GO GET A NEW ONE, LET ME KNOW WHO DOES IT AND IF IT WORKS FOR YOU ALSO!:2cool:

We waited almost 20 hours and after calls to both AT&T and Apple, both recommended a SIM card change. We just got back and YIPPEEEE it works!!!

So what would be a normal wait time for the activation email?

MomPOM

That's scary that it seems so many SIM cards are screwed up. Someone's going to get a butt-whoopin.

Just make sure you don't get double billed if/when that original activation goes through.

Changed the SIM, worked for me! It was like a completely new activation experience, saw messages I hadn't seen before! The email came right away, after all the verifying crap it took seconds.

Here was my situation:
In Tallahassee, FL First email received at 7:30pm yesterday. SIM worked in old phone but not in iphone.

If your situation is anything like this, go get a SIM, i wish i would have sooner.

Same here (7:37pm EST yesterday).

Wish I had changed the card out sooner :tounge:

But happy now, so it's all good!

Worked for me as well. Almost a full 24 hours of waiting, and after I swapped out the SIM card, it took all of four minutes to activate. Thanks guys.

it wouldnt be smart to do this, they would charge you for 2 phones once the other one goes thru

Both having the same iPhone serial number and AT&T information?

Should be easy enough to dismiss, if the need be.

Yeah, the phone will be registered to the SIM. It's worth a shot.

I'm glad it's working for so many of you!

I was just asking in terms of being able to get one free, if you had not bought your iPhone from their store.

But I was able to get a free SIM card from the local AT&T Store, and I'm all set up now.

Well, I just got the usual message "Your activation requires additional time to complete" You will receive an e-mail confirmation sent to xxxxx@xxx.com once your activation is complete", as soon as I switched the sim (I went to the almost nextdoor starbucks to check it out.)

I just tried this, it didnt work. It let me redo my data plan and everything ( I'm a current customer ) but it sent me to the "Your activation takes more time" page after 3 mins. No luck.

I tried to port a T-Mobile number and activation got hung 24+ hours. So I got a new SIM card from AT&T and did NOT try to port a number the second time around. Still nada. Same problem.

That's what they told me to do last night at 11:30. Went to the store this morning at 9 AM and the guy didn't believe me. He three or four calls to the same people I talked to on Friday night. Finally, he decided to try another SIM (like I had suggested) and it worked in three minutes. Unbelievable!

Not true. It's the same number. They're only going to charge you for one number. I changed mine in the store with the data manager and we checked my account to make sure there was no duplication of the activation. Without the working SIM card, the phone would have never activated. You don't get charged until the activation goes through the switch.

SAme here. Mine was a replacement of an existing Cingular/at&t phone. Shouldn't have been a big deal, but the SIM was defective. Once I changed it and went through the short activation process, it was up and running in three minutes.

Ok, here's what got mine working. After reading this post I was tempted to go out and get a new sim card also but after calling AT&T, it seemed like they didn't want to give out a sim card if they didn't have to. So the lady told me to call this activation hotline ( 1-877-419-4500 ) So I told the guy my problem... tried activating last night and here it is 24 hours and it's still not working. So the guy checked my account and noticed it didn't have the iPhone data plan on my account. (which you can check for yourself if you log into the ATT website and look at your rate plan) So anyway, the guy manually added it to the account after taking down my IMEI and long number written on the back of my sim card. I hung up my blackberry and he called me back... the iPhone rang. I know this wont help those who are porting their numbers probably but for current ATT users, maybe that will help. Hope that wasn't too long-winded :laugh2:
