finger nails

hey everyone!! i have kind of a stupid question. i just got a iphone yesterday and it is great!! i was showing it to my parents and they both want one now :) but the question i had was that my mom has finger nails...is there anyway that it can work..the touch screen?? has anyone else bought a iphone and had these problems???
