As far as I know it's official. I let iTunes download and upgrade it for me instead of manually downloading it from a link.

I downloaded 2.0 over an hour ago....it completely erased my phone and after the update was supposed to reconnect to itunes store and re-upload all my content. This has yet to happen, my phone is stuck on slide for emergency and useless. I can only assume that this is due to everyone attempting to access itunes store at the same time. It keeps telling me the connection timed out, try again later. Now I'm screwed b/c I have very important business to conduct today and now I have been without a phone for over an hour. I know it's my fault, I should have waited until after the initial rush, but I didn't expect this.

If you go thru itunes, it is the official one. It is out now but tons of people are stuck with a useless phone because it started the update and timed out. Too much traffic.

same here all I expected was slow download speeds or unable to log on but not to allow a download and then just lock out the phone to emergency mode... I have to leave for work in 2 hours so I hope it comes back soon but I am not counting on it.

Well, that is the beauty of having this forum. You are saving me and others from going through the same thing. My AT&T in Chattanooga had a big line at nearly noon, so I expect this has been a big seller today.

The only issue was the wait for the servers. I got timeouts for about 20 minutes but it eventually went through. I did loose all my music but that was expected and can be restored from my Music library at home. All the other data like contacts, notes, and calendar entries were restored.

Sort of....yesterday morning, I downloaded the pre-release software and ran the upgrade from my home computer (Macbook Pro). This is where my music library is. I noticed that my apps were running a lot slower than they normally did and when I got in to work this morning, I saw a few posts about how the pre-release file had debug code in it that may make apps run slow. Doh!
So, I ran iTunes on my work desktop (Windows PC), connected the phone and told it to Check for Update. I got the message back that my iPhone had the latest version (2.0). So, I told iTunes to Restore. At that point, I got a dialog asking if I wanted to backup my phone and I said to back it up. It then gave me a dialog saying it would put 2.0 on my phone and listed some of the new features. I clicked OK and iTunes downloaded a new file and did the upgrade from that file. Before the upgrade, it backed up my phone onto my work PC so when the upgrade eventually completed, it asked me if I wanted to restore from that backup. I said Yes and all is ok, except no music but I'll put that back on when I get home to my Music Library.

You're right. Some loyalty to the folks who bought it first would have been nice. Espcially since unless we want to pay considerably more for the new one (if we are under a current contract), we'll have to wait.
The software update last week would have been excellent.

I also DL'd the pre-release 2.0 yesterday, and my phone is working flawlessly. Apps run just fine. Has it actually been confirmed that yesterday's 2.0 was actually not the final version? I have a hard time believing that since I don't see any signs of issues with my phone.

With 2.0, your Contacts is a separate app now. Bring it up and count how many seconds it takes before it lets you scroll around in them. With the pre-release, it was taking 5-10 seconds for mine to let me scroll. With the official release, it takes about 3 seconds. The same thing happened with Notes...pre-release seemed to take longer before I could do anything in Notes than the official one did.

No, the phone is stock. I assume it's because the servers are haywire.

It could be that whatever tells iTunes what the latest release should be, isn't doing it, maybe because of server or network overload.

That may not help...regardless of what version you upgrade to, official or pre-release, iTunes still needs to hit an activation server to activate your phone. That's where the bottleneck is at the moment.

I'm freaking pissed right now, I should've know better, Apple should've known better. Iether way, I've been without my Iphone since 10am today, here that's means almost 4 hours now. I lost a $4k business deal because of no access to a phone. I went to the AT&T store, they said they could do nothing, went to the Apple store, there was a line of over 100 people waiting outside still. I finally went to Best Buy and bought a Go-phone and put my sim in it. I have no contacts or anything, but atleast I can check my voicemail and people can call me. DAMMITTTTT!!!

from others have been saying thus far, the servers are krazy busy...at this point, if you want to chk manually, just go up to the apple icon i believe-while in iTunes and click check for updates..matter of fact software updates should pop up automatically..at least it does with my mac...no i don't believe you NEED to do the pre-release...that was indeed for the "na-:tounge:na-na-:tounge:na-na:tounge:, i got it first" people..LOL:laugh2:

I have 2.0 running on my v1 iPhone, installation went smooth, only snag I had was when trying to add the AIM app. It gave me a error saying I need SSL 3.0 or TLA 1.0 in my browser settings. I rebooted my device, re-synced it and all was well. That was like 945am this morning ;-) And all my data was restored after the update. :laugh2:

are your serious! ...by the way what's the flashlight app...
Sorry took me so long to respond, but yes, I'm serious, I'm engaged now, and very happy to be expecting my first child!
Anyways, the flashlight app is a free download that just turns your entire screen white when you click on it. It's extremely useful when you have to get up and take the dogs out in the middle of the night or something light that.

I'm an AT&T customer so I'm not worried about locking my phone backup. I upgraded to 2.0 and have ZERO regrets. Initially I wasn't going to but the curiosity got the better of me. Several good apps (some are the same I was using unlocked). Texas Hold'em app is well worth the money.
Just my .02 cents.

I'm sure you'll be able to unlock it in a matter of days if you really want to, but I'm glad you're happy with 2.0. It really is worth trying for a while at least.

Man, I so wanna upgrade to 2.0, but I'm deathly afraid of all the problems I'm hearing about. I have NEVER Jailbroken my phone, but I'm still afraid. I'm dying to get all of the cool apps, especially Texas Holdem (can you listen to your own music while playing, the one I had on my iPod allowed that), Tetris, a racing game, AOL IM, etc.

There is nothing to be afraid of. Times were tough yesterday because everyone was trying to get thru at once. Upgrade now. You will probably get right thru and start enjoying all the apps you are missing. I got V2 last night about 9 PM and had no trouble at all.
Go for it.

Hey everyone, I'm new here. I got my iPhone bricked after trying to restore 1.1.4 software to factory settings last night at 10.20. I reactivated my phone by hooking it up to the computer this morning and everythings restored but when I click check for updates in iTunes, it says 1.1.4 is the latest update. Do I have to update iTunes as well before it allows me to update to 2.0 ? Thanks.:laugh2:

If you don't have iTunes version 7.7, then yes, you'll need to update that before downloading and installing 2.0.
Like everyone else has said, all the problems of yesterday are gone - there should be no trouble getting the software successfully loaded on your phone. Be aware that it does take longer to upgrade to 2.0 than any other update (that I'm aware of).

My husband has the same feelings as you about upgrading. I upgraded mine yesterday afternoon & didn't encounter any problems other than the connection timing out but in all it only took about 30-45 minutes.

I did mine yesterday morning in about 30 minutes, and my wife's this morning in about the same time. The longest part is letting itunes restore all the music and videos. Only think I have noticed is a slight lag for some of the original apps, but nothing that interferes with life. IMHO, its worth the upgrade.

I just updated my iPhone this morning (after letting all the I-Gotta-Get-Mine-Now updaters clear out), and was pleased to see that Apple has added a bulk delete feature to email.
When I saw the 100 on my email icon, I thought, hmmm, Apple must be setting this up to show me how the bulk delete works. I was quite surprised to find EVERY ONE of my old emails back on my phone, all the way back to the very first test email I sent from my iPhone. Nostalgic feelings for tripping back to when I first got my iPhone, this is a royal pain in the... but I digress.
Too bad there's no "check all" feature, because I just tapped my index finger about 1/2" shorter going through all those old emails to mark them for deletion.
Why can't Apple get this simple interface right???

Well, I updated to 2.0 from A PERFECT 1.1.4 jailbroken phone. What a mistake I made.
Now I have none of my apps that I was used to and loved. PLUS my battery is running down a bit faster than before too. Still testing that theory, but I swear it's running down faster.
I think I might reload the phone again... Anyone know of a way to backstep to 1.1.4?

Mine and my wife's both seem to be draining the battery faster. Not sure if there are apps running in the background or the phone is updating more frequently. It is also due to the fact that we are using them a little more setting up and using the new apps. Both phones are also slower to react and type on and freeze occasionally. I see a 2.1 revision coming soon to get some of the bugs out, or could just be Apples way of moving us V1 holdouts into the next generation :tounge:
I think I just figured out the battery issue. Go into Settings and then under general, turn OFF location services. I don't even remember where this came from, but I don't need/want it.
Let's see how my battery does now.
*In addition* I also think that for those that have the "Official" 2.0 firmware and still complain of sluggish apps, you also need to turn off the location services.
From what I can tell, it at least twice as bad as having BSD Subsystem running in the background on your phone.*
Is anyone else's Facebook app very crash prone?
Mine crashes every time I tap 'Friends'.

thanks for the tip!...so what is the location services anyway?
Well, as far as my test goes, I am 99% sure that that the locator service chews up battery.
As I write this, I have about 1/4th of the battery icon missing and usage is at 3 Hours. That's 47 minutes of calls, and the rest is edge browsing (2.6MB) and a combination of iPod and apps.
This morning's 40 minutes of usage was from my alarms and a handful of SMS only and it showed about an eighth of the battery missing.
Test for yourselves though. I don't want to tell everyone this, and I am the only one that is experiencing the problem.

Hawk, what's locator service?
Hawk, what's locator service?Honestly I am not sure. AS far as I can tell, they work in conjunction with certain apps that use your location for posting or whatever service the app supplies.
Generally, if an app uses the services, then when you install and/or launch for the first time it should ask if the phone can use your location.
I say no anyway.

I noticed that today when using the camera, it asked me if I wanted to use my current location. I said 'allow' because I wasn’t quite sure what it meant. Can this be changed? It also asked me the same question when using the map function. However, I turned off the Location Service option in the settings as you indicated to do.
My upgrade to 2.0 took 2hrs Friday night on the 11th.

What a crock! this 2.0 update is. My phone keeps "freezing" (nothing is selectable, touch screen is dead)
and I have to turn it off to get it to work again. Plus: no MMS (I know steve, you didn't think anyone wanted that! (NOT), No camera controls, no video, no landscape typing mode for SMS, ..I really expected much more from apple!

the location services keeps turning back on and it continues to ask me about using my location when using maps
well, you can always do what I did, and say "screw 2.0, I'm going back to 1.1.4 and jailbreak it."
Which I just finished doing. Very easy, but you need 4 things.
1) you need to uninstall iTunes 7.7 and get 7.5 installed. (before uninstalling, you might want to rename your library to "itunes backup"
2) you need the 1.1.4 firmware.
3) you will need ibrickr or liberty to kick the phone out of recovery mode
4) you will need a jailbreak tool. I used Ziphone 2.6b
there are other instructions that are more detailed here:

ok, i updated to 2.0 today, and for some bizarre reason i found a Contacts button, like on the ipod touch, is this for real? is there any way i can remove this? its kinda pointless considering this is a PHONE and you have all your contacts saved under the phone portion, so this contacts button really has no purpose

everyone with 2.0 has it and you cannot delete it. if its that big of a burden for you, go back to 1.1.4, get rid of your iphone, or put the app on a home screen you dont use much

My phone was rebooting all night. If you hold the tpo button and home for at least 20 to 30 sec it stopped. I went to itunes 7.7 and turned of auto update."Dont Update" Restore the iphone. When it finished my phone was locked. I went to ziphone and downloaded the unlock program. I did the first option and it unlocked and gave it a new unlocked verison of 1.14. My installer program was back after a reboot. Im up and running. now im looking for a fix for 2.0. Anyone?
