EARLY ADOPTERS!
IF you installed the 2.0 from yesterday I suggest that you get the
Official 2.0 FW (http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/iPhone/061-4956.20080710.V50OI/iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw)

Save it to your desktop or somewhere you will be able to find it.

Open iTunes

Click iPhone Tab

SHIFT+RESTORE

Select the above FW you just downloaded

Enjoy

EDIT: Some people can not get past iTunes screen. It wont create a secure connection

You still probably have the pre release 2.0

iTunes can't tell the difference and it thinks 2.0 Pre is the latest version

That's why you have to manually do it

Actually, it downloaded a whole new file that was only 218M instead of 225M. Try renaming the previous IPSW file to something else and see if it downloads the new copy.

Doing the "official" upgrade, I also got 5A347 with a file size of 218Meg (228,768,637 bytes). This is reported on a PC from Windows Explorer. I wonder if they replaced the file that we got yesterday with the final build but put it in the same download location.

Sounds like a server problem, maybe due to the traffic. Try rebooting your computer, run iTunes again without the phone being connected, then connect the phone. If you get a timeout or something about needing to have SSL 3.0, disconnect the phone and wait, then reconnect it. It's taking some time to get through

If what I've read is true, the early copy has debug code in it that may slow you down or in the worst case, cause crashes. I'd do the official upgrade when you get a chance. I did and noticed a huge difference in app speed.

Until it attempts to re-activate your phone. You may get timeouts and have to wait for traffic on the activation servers to subside.

Chances are you're on the official release. Not that is any kind of scientific test, but bring up your Contacts app (it's separate now as well as part of the Phone app) and see how long it takes before you can start scrolling through them. If it's around 3 seconds, you probably have the official update. If it's 5 seconds or longer, you may have the pre-release.

They both said 2.0 (5A347). The only way to tell the difference is by the name of the file. Yesterday's file was: iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw, and today's file (the official iTunes release) is iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw. Actually, yesterday's file was about 7MB larger. I guess that was the tracking software that was supposed to report bugs and such. Either way, 1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw is the one you want.

I agree. I don't think I really noticed it being any quicker, but I would rather have the official version. The difference in size between the two has been reported to be the bug tracking software that doesn't have anywhere to go on the actual iphone.

Sorry to drop in a bit late on the conversation, but I have a question that may clear up some stuff.

When I got my 3G iPhone, it came with 345. A friend of mine informed me that if I did a restore from iTunes, I would get 347. I did do the restore and got 347.

I looked at the iPhone Software Update folder in the Application Data folder (windows) and I noticed that iTunes had downloaded the file iPhone1,2_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw which is 225MB. However! According to http://phobos.apple.com/version the 5A347 mentioned has the filename iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw and is 218MB.

My question: Can I somehow tell iTunes (Windows) to restore iPhone1,1_2.0_5A347_Restore.ipsw (218MB) on my 3G iPhone? Will it work? or does the 1,1 imply its only for 1st gen iPhones?
