View Full Version : DO NOT update v1 iphone with the 2.0 firmware that has been found early

I've posted this in the other similar threads but I thought I'd show it here where more will see it.

FYI that 2.0 verison that everyone is linking to is NOT the correct 2.0 firmware. That firmware is 5A347 and the correct firmware is 5A345. Here is the info i've found:

"iPhone 3G is shipping with build 5A345. 5A347 is a build that was never intended for a production environment, and certainly not for installation on the original iPhone! As I mentioned earlier, it was built to be installed on iPhone 3G development test units only (note, I did not say production units), and has not been tested or designed for the original iPhone.

Build 5A347 contains a significant amount of debug code and that is, in part, the reason for the slowdowns iPhone classic users are seeing. As also mentioned previously, when 32k of debug data is collected, the build is designed to dump the data to a location which no production iPhone supports, and hence you're seeing timeouts while the write process attempts to do its job."

I did install the 5A347 firmware on my v1 and it seems to work fine, but as soon as the correct version is released I'm going to switch to that.

From what i've seen itunes won't be able to tell the difference between the real 2.0 and this incorrect one. You will probably have to download and install it manually (using the same method you used to install the illegitimate 2.0 firmware in the first place)

so the only thing you should need is the download link, which I'm sure someone can provide once it is released.

No need to panic, it will all be undoable.

My friends said I was paranoid for waiting, but i'm glad I did. The official update is only hours away in any case. :D

well it wouldn't let me restore to 1.14, but it would let me use the 2.0 leaked today. I hope I can upgrade to the official one.

that has been a known issue, you should read the latest posts on the link the OP posted. someone had the same issue as you.

I would wait until the real firmware comes out and the dust settles tomorrow, then if you still have problems make a new thread for yourself here.

I'd help you but I'm really not that much of an expert.

With apps you couldn't even use?

not at all, downloaded most of the free apps in itunes yesterday and a couple others for $2.99

But everyone was moaning that you could buy and download the apps, but you couldn't use them till you had the 2.0 software.

Thats just it I got 2.0 that was leaked since yesterday and all the apps worked flawlessly, But now I have heard some saying that version is making their phones run slower that usual. Which is why I kinda wish I had waited.:frown:

I'm a little surprised that Apple would put a non-release version of the code up on a server that could be accessed by the public, even if nobody was supposed to know the address. There are way too many clever people out here that can figure out how to get it.

That explains why they're different in size, official version is 218mb and leaked one was 225mb.

Just do it through iTunes but be warned, the iTunes store has been timing out so you may not be able to re-activate after the upgrade.

5A347 here too and I have upgraded both ways. Yesterday via my Macbook Pro at home and today from my Windows PC at work so the update wasn't done on the same system, eliminating the chance that it used the file that I downloaded yesterday.
