The PR doesn't say when it will be released. It also says:
"Fonix iSpeak will be available for release directly from Fonix Speech Inc., and expects to be available through traditional Apple distribution channels."
I guess they are targeting jailbreaked iPhones, too. Those folks can get it directly from that company. However, the PR mentions only 3G, not v1.
I wonder how much it'll cost?

This is a first...I'm replying to my own message!
According to the Fonix site, their Pocket PC/Windows Mobile product sells for US$15.95. Hopefully, that'll be about the same for the iPhone.

You could have just edited your previous post with that information instead of replying to it.
Just trying to help in case you did not know that.

First, why iPhone 3G and not iPhone and iPhone 3G. Secondly, this makes no mention of the App Store. I think it's wishful thinking and they pushed this release to capitalize on the iPhone buzz. Would it be nice? Sure, but sounds like they haven't been approved for the App Store. If they were, I'm sure they'd include that in the release.

speechcloud had a voice dialing app up in the app store for a little bit apparantly. You can still find it in the app store, but they say it's been removed. I wonder why. Oh, did I mention that it was free?
Search in the app store for "Speechcloud Voice Dialer"
If anyone got it, maybe they could share?

It works now. I just tried it. Once downloaded you have to press and hold the icon & wait for "speak now" to appear. Once it appears then you say "call" followed by the contact name. It then brings up the person's contact info.

...and then what? How do you get it to actually dial, say, their work number?

once it brings up the person's contact info it will have for example their home#, work#, etc u have to push which one you want it to dial. I just tried it again & it's not working. I told it to call James & for some reason it popped up my friend Mandy's info.

That kinda defeats the purpose of hand-free dialing, doesn't it? :gasp:
With Windows Mobile smartphones, you can simply say, "Dial John Doe at work", or "Dial John Doe on mobile". The voice will ask for confirmation and you simply reply, "Yes" or "No". A truely hands-free experience.
