is buying that dock even worth it??? i mean, why not just connect it to the USB cable? What are the advantages of the dock?

It doesnt lie flat on the table or desk or wherever you are...and its just kind of cooler than having it just plugged in.. Thats all I know of for advantages...

Don't know really. I just posted this since some people looove the dock. I personally don't care if I have it or not. Yes, you can just use the USB cable that comes with the phone. Maybe someone that owns a V1 AND has a dock can chime in and explain the advantages. I can only think of one disadvantage: You couldn't dock it if it has a case.

I liked the fact that the v1 came with the dock. The fact that the iPhone 3G doesn't is a bit disappointing but I never use the dock anymore anyway.

You can answer the iPhone 3G while it's docked and if you put it on speakerphone it helps to have it upright in a dock.

I like the dock because it is easier to just plug it in and pull it out. I dont really know how else to describe why i like it better, and why i am spending the extra 30 bucks on it but i know i like it better than the cable and i am glad they have something like this but i wish it would come with the iPhone 3G like the last one did =[

That is a cool feature, I will have to try that with my V1.

That may be a feature only on the 3G...
I'm not sure though...

I loved my dock too. But i wont be shelling out $50 for one. Hell, I can just prop my phone up next to all these past due bills on my pc desk

I've answered calls when it was still in the dock. You can hit the speakerphone button and talk that way also. I like having the dock because I use my iPhone as a double check on my alarm and I have it on my nightstand so it is pretty convenient to have it sitting upright.

Okay, I wasn't sure about the v1... didn't want to spread misinformation. :laugh2:

An apple rep confirmed that the universal dock does work for the iPhone 3G as well. Take this like all the "rumors" with a grain of salt.

Yeah, the $49.99 is for the 3G. Clicking on the link below, it lists compatiblity with the iphone 3G

I like the dock as well. IF I get the 3G, I'll have to pony up for the dock for sure.

You can answer the iPhone when just using the dock cable too. How does it help to have it upright in a dock when on speakerphone?
Sorry if I've missed your point.

Almost all iPhones my friends have or the phones I have seen on the street have some kind of case on them. Mine included. I just don't like taking the phone out of the case just to "dock" it. Out of everything that was in the V1 box, the dock is the least used piece.

Alright dammit!!!
It just looks f-in a if you're talking to an upright iPhone rather than a flat iPhone and if you want you can surf the web at the same time (on the 3G) which would be easier if it's at an angle rather than flat!!!!!!!!!
So you wanna be cool now? :2cool:

There's a lot of cases that you don't have to take apart to dock your iPhone.

LOL Glad you admit it. :laugh2:
I am on the tallish side and, just for me personally, looking at the iPhone on my desk in a dock would be inconvenient compared to looking straight down on the desk, flat like a calculator. But that's just for me. I completely get the idea of using it in a dock on the nightstand. But I don't have an easily-removed case either.
I have a solution! The iPhone should come with a kickstand.

This case comes with a kickstand...

However, I'm not sure you can actually open up the case to plug it into the dock cable. And it doesn't appear this is for the 3G either. :frown:

-I had a case like that for my iPod Video and it was so un-comfortable holding the iPod with the "spring" stand on the back:angry:
