quick question , after downloading programs, how do you get rid of the icon that stays on the screen without deleting the program. Usually I just drag it to the trash but I end up deleting the program all together . Does anyone know what to do?

Are you talking about the Disk Image file? I think I've gotten around that by dragging the App into the Applications folder and then deleting the remaining Disk Image but I might be mistaken about what you're referring to.

yep. Installation in OSX is radically different than you may be used to doing (in wondows). For the most part, all you should have to do is open the disc image file (*.dmg), and then drag the application icon (*.app) to your applications folder (or wherever you want it, really).

then you can unmount the image and delete the *.dmg. The icon you moved to your aplications folder is now where you will go to run the program.

I'm sorry I'm new to Mac's , so I'm not too sure how to drag the icon to the application folder , I tried doing that but nothing happens. For example I downloaded limewire, now I have the limewire icon on my screen... I'm not sure what mounting is either ... Also I downloaded adium as my aim service cause iChat was giving me many problems, is their a way I can just uninstall iChat? I remember in windows you just go to "add&remove program" but I have no idea what I'm doing lol

my computer is currently tied up, so i can't give you a detailed explanation at the moment, but if you want to install iChat, just go to your applications folder, highlight iChat, and hit Fn+delete. It is then sent to your Trash can, and is uninstalled from your system.

i can put together a little walkthrough to install limewire a little bit later when i get my computer back up and running...

Some people save all their disk image's - as a way to retrieve accidentally deleted apps. Waste of space, though, if you ask me.
