View Full Version : iPhone screen just cracked, but still working. Repair Cost?
Hello,
I have an 8GB iPhone and just noticed that the screen is cracked near the earpiece (fortunately not anywhere on the touchscreen area itself). I feel confident that with some babying it will last at least until July 11 launch date for new model.
I was planning on getting the iPhone 3G anyway soon after launch date but would like the original iPhone as "spare" in case battery runs dead etc. on the 3G.
Can anyone tell me the repair cost for the glass screen? It it's reasonable I'l do it after I get my new phone. Thank you in advance.

a coworker dropped his the other day, it spider webbed, they said it would take about 3 days to fix and the cost was $200
The screen cost is silly. You can buy a new iphone for that.
I appreciate the replies.

Not really. The full unsubsidized price of an 8GB iPhone 3G is over $500. And yeah, the screen is a major part of the price.

i dont know why apple made the glass and the lcd one piece...thats stupid....the glass should be replaceable. I mean the glass cost 30 bucks on ebay....why do we have to buy it together....if my lcd is still good...

Someone recently replaced the screen themselves. He posted his screen replacing adventure on this forum somewhere (search for it). He paid a fraction of what Apple were going to charge him.

$250 unless you're really comfortable with fine tools and very small parts.

I had dropped mine and cracked the glass all the way across the screen. It didn't affect the working of the phone, so I ignored it. Just last month I started having a problem with my earphones jack not working properly (I could hear music but no lyrics...very odd) and I called in and told them about the ear jack problem and arranged to send it in for repair. They sent me a "new" replacement phone free of charge since I am still in my one year warranty. Any thing wrong with your phone? We have 4 in our family and we've sent every one of them back for a repair (side volume button stuck on 2 of them; the last one just kept giving NO SERVICE messages randomly) and we all got "replacement phones" back within a few days, no charge.

I must have been really lucky. When the iPhone first came out, I purchased 50 (5 boxes of 10), unlocked them all and sold them. Not one ever came back to me with any issues. I always told the buyers, if you have any problems, contact me straight away. I never heard a thing?
My friends also did the same as me and they never had any come back to them either.
I tried to go back and buy more iPhones, but the restrictions had been put into place by then and the Apple store would not sell me anymore. I managed to get a few from the AT&T store, but it was a pain only being able to buy 2 iPhones at a time.

I'll look into the third party repairs. They seem much more reasonable than Apple.
