View Full Version : Fedex Out for Delivery

Cmon', we've all been there one time or another. Tracking some item and seeing the wonderful "Out for Delivery" message. Today is the day my MacBook Pro arrives, at least according to FEDEX. After my recent move, there is a good chance that one of my neighbors will be getting a new MacBook Pro. For some reason, Fedex seems to deliver my packages to everyone on the block but me. Fingers crossed, door bell checked and working.... the countdown is on.

Nothing more exciting than waiting for a new computer to be delivered. Been through this 3 times. You keep looking out the door every 2 minutes.:laugh2:
I remember one time I was waiting for a PC and the truck pulls up and only has one box. He only had the monitor. Had to wait another day for the PC.
Anyway, gonna be a fun night for you. Enjoy the Mac.

The best of times and the worst of times. The best when you first see that status change. The worst when the doorbell is not yet ringing 10 seconds after seeing it. Oh, and trying to act even a tiny bit more mature and patient than an 8 year old on Christmas Eve while you wait out the last stretch until it gets to the door.
Or maybe that's just me

Did you also order this one from Amazon?
What happened with your MBA? Did you get a full refund?

Ordered this one directly from the mothership. It's sitting in the corner of my office. I know that once I crack it open, my work day will be finished.
Still waiting to hear back from Amazon. Processed the return and shipped it off last week. Between emailing and calling, it certainly sounds like I'll be getting a full refund.

We had like 30 MacBook Pros turn up at work the other day. Turns out the big wigs in the marketing department want them over PC laptops. Sucks sitting there looking at a stack of MacBook Pros, knowing you cannot have one :frown:

I went with the 2.5 Ghz -- matte display. That provides double the video SDRAM and L2 cache. I could care less about the extra 50GB on the hard drive and I doubt there is much difference between 2.4 and 2.5.

Did you know you can go through the education section and get a discount (online only)? Apple does not check.
We tried it the other day. A friend purchased a MacBook through the education section and not once did they ask for any proof of being a student. He got the laptop and everything.

It's always those lucky marketing guys who get all the Macs.:laugh2: I've worked for a few big corporations and finding Macs was like searching for the Lochness Monster. If you were lucky, you'd see an old G3 that was running OS 9 and it was reserved for the "graphic designer". I was able to snag a PowerBook G3 when I worked at Canon. It was the best investment they ever made. I did ads that were placed in magazines and set up a sales database running off FileMaker. People in my group used the PC version and it worked like a charm.
I didn't fare so well at Olympus. I ended up using my wife's iBook, which was painful. They also saved bundles on outsourced work by having me do it in-house. I was the marketing guy who wanted to be the graphic designer. In most cases, I ended up both -- with our without a company sanctioned Mac.

I have a business account rep. Not sure where it falls, but I saved a few bucks. Also ordered a Mobile Me family pack, so I can outfit everyone with push email. It was like $109 and that'll extend my dot mac too.
I have to get Apple Care sometime this year. The hard drive on my PowerBook crapped out in year 3 of the AppleCare, so I'm not going to take any chances.

Ah, I know the feeling. When my MacBook was shipping, I was checking the tracking page every five minutes. It was great to see the "On FedEx truck for delivery" message.

Try this site:
http://www.iship.com/trackit/track.aspx
They usually have more in-depth tracking info. Sad I know, but knowing the driver's name makes it feel like it's going to get here quicker.

Browsing now from the new MacBook Pro. It's very nice. Honestly, it's very similar to my 3 year old Powerbook -- at least size and form factor. The screen is MUCH brighter. Running the 50,000 or so software updates now. Used .mac to sync all my bookmarks and I'm good to go.
I love it. Loved the MBA, but this feels more comfortable coming from the Powerbook.

I feel ya - my MacBook has two times the memory my Pro had, and it wipes the floor with my Mini. Much more solid, and I;m sure the MBP is coming from he Air. How much memory does it have?

Just in time on that feature I think - they're dropping that one soon right?
Congrats Chris on the MBP. I just bought one also about 2 months ago and is my first Mac. I got the 15'' monitor, 2.6 Ghz, 200 Gb HDD 7200 rpm, 4 Gb ram, Nvidia 512 card. So far it's been great and still learning it. Total price was $2400

Congrats, Chris!
I too have a new MacBook Pro from this March, and I love it.
The machine is so powerful but I still find it to be the best-looking Apple computer with the sleek Aluminum.
I know little about computers, but all I know is that this is a great one. As you mentioned, the screen is very nice and might be my favorite feature.
