When you address people on the forum, do you usually use their real names(if known) or their screen names?

And why?

I normally use screen names. May seem less personal, but its easier to keep up with that way. I for one wish that people would just change their screen names to their real ones. Then I'd not have any trouble haha.

Some people may have the same first and last name though...

Unless I know the person well (i.e. communicated enough to consider them more than an online acquaintance), I use their screen name.

I usually refer to what ever screen name is next to the avatar.

So then screen name, even if it does happen to be their first name?

Am I the only one that makes sense to???

Depends on context.

If I'm responding to a general question to which we are all contributing, I will address everyone I know by their screenname as to not confuse the original poster.

If it's an off-topic thread and I'm referencing all that inside crap we've built up on each other, I'll use real names. More fun that way.

I have a horrible, horrible memory, and the screename-to-realname conversion is tricky for me. But, for those who have trusted us all with their god-given names, I feel a duty to eventually learn and incorporate them into my discourse.

I voted real names. [shrug] :D

Have I mentioned lately how cool everyone here is? Just thought I'd bring that up before finishing.

Ok, i'm finished.

Wow. From the things you post, you seem to be a very smart cookie :)
Lol. But that is pretty good (what you do). Btw, you're one of the only members on here thats name I actually remember, Dave :) (Did that make sense? The way I worded that?)

If I know a name, I use it. Psylichon is Dave, Hayesimus is Hayes, Kokogirl is Lisa, etc. I just feel a bit odd calling people by a screen name when I know their real name.

I generally use screen names on here (EIC) unless the person has asked to be addressed by their real name (Dave/Psylichon). I tend to use real names in IRC chat as it's just more personal - unless the prefers to be addressed by their screen name (Indy).

I use either one. I'll use the real name if I remember it, though.

The only poster that I even know by their real name is TinMan. That's just because he has it at the end of each of his posts and I have read countless posts by that man trying to fix my phone since I got it in September. There was a span of a couple of months where it seemed like Apple was trying to destroy the JB'ing community and he was always on the cutting edge of fixes around Apple's fixes.

So here's to you, Mike.

(I voted screen names, btw)

I agree with Dave, John, and Buffy.

Some people have asked to be called their real name, (thanks Dave for not making me try to spell your screen name anymore).

If someone here has their real name in their sig, I figure they want to be called by their real name so it is OK. I like to be called Lisa or Kokogirl or Koko for short, so it does not matter to me. If I did not want to be addressed as Lisa, I would not have put my name in my sig. If the person's real name is not in the sig or is not their screen name, I think it is kind of off-limits.

hahaha... well yes. It is a burder I've bourne for many years. Psy works. But so does Dave... :laugh2:

Kabeyun PM'd me just the other day saying he just realized my screenname is pronounced "SILICON"... just thought I'd throw that out there... for those like Kabe for whom it hasn't sunk in yet...
