I really liked it. Not my favorite of his movies, but it is classic M Night Shyamalan. It is much more graphic, and has a semi-horror vibe to it at times, which is kindof a new direction for him. I wasn't fond of Mark Whalberg in that role, but the girl was pretty good... and cute.

My advice to people that haven't seen it (or any other of MNS's movies) is to look beyond the main plot... there is ALWAYS much more to his movies than aliens, ghosts, and faeries.

I also thought it was alright. I had learned to expect more from Mark Whalberg, but wasn't too terribly disappointed.

why did they have to kill mark whalberg at the end though?
that kind of ruined it for me.

ohh sorry i didnt mean to say that
all im saying is that when mark whalberg found out
that all those murder's were his fault
he should have put up a better fight
i mean why would you let them kill you
now who wins?

good one iCafe. Sorry, but his movies have been worse and worse with each passing attempt. I doubt he gets much more of these kinds of movies...

Don't listen to iCafe, it doesn't happen that way. He's just his usual jackassness.
As a side note, the woman showing the video of the lion attacks in the movie was showing it on her iPhone.

Hayes, I think you've missed the point of MNS's movies... I can post more later when I get home, but he's not losing his edge at all.

Yeah he kinda is. If his movies aren't enjoyed then there is something wrong. He has had one failure after another. The only ones that anyone has ANYTHING good to say about are The 6th Sense, Signs, and maybe The Village. All his movies are just Gimmick movies. You wait for the one "twist" at the end which never really seems to be that great when it gets there. And most people guess them long before that happens anyway. I'm sorry, but it seems like most people that like his movies, like them because it was he that directed them. They just go because they saw his name on it, in the hopes that they'll be impressed like they were when they saw the 6th sense... I bet even they would say his movies sucked if he had promoted the movie under an alias.

I've really been wanting to see this movie, but the general consensus in IRC chat last night was that is was a disappointment. :frown: Haven't decided whether I'll see it yet, or not.

Sidenote: Hayes, where have you been lately?

Sideresponse:I kinda lost some steam in the posting department. Been out most of the past few days running around, swimming, birthday shindigs... ya know that whole enjoying myself thing. :p

BTW. On yahoo, the average user review was a C-. That's even lower than the Critic reviews which average a C! And most of the reviews started out saying how much they are a fan of MNS. And that each movie gets worse and worse. One person even said they wanted to gouge their eyes out. Another said don't waste your money.

I thought that Unbreakable and Lady in the Water were better than The Village, but I, too, was disappointed in this latest MNS flick. Started out good, then went to ****.

This started out GREAT and went to hell quickly. I'm an M Night Shymdjfakfdoifsajlon fan and I was pissed I spent $22 on this movie. I'm not sure I would have been happy renting the stupid thing either. I wouldn't recommend it. If you DO see it, keep your expectations low.

wow... i don't see how you can like his other movies, and not enjoy this one. Just my opinion, i guess. his movies aren't about the weird stuff that happens, or the twist endings... those things are just a catalyst that spark events that challenge interesting characters (that are otherwise normal people) to do something heroic... and make a statement about the world along the way.

In my opinion, not many directors/writers put in the attention to detail their movies like MNS does, and it will really only become evident to people that try to look beyond the main catastrophic event of the movie. The Happening is no different.

And hayes, with all due respect... make up your own mind. If you don't want to see it, then reserve judgement. Don't just quote reviews and claim the movie is trash.

I have seen 6th Sense and Unbreakable, but none of his other movies. I knew Bruce Willis' character was the ghost just before it was revealed, but it was still an amazing movie. I also enjoyed Unbreakable.

The other movies seemed more like horror movies in the trailers, so I have not seen them. I do not like horror movies. I get bad dreams. :frown:

If I am wrong and they are not scary, I am open to watching.

Koko, i think you'd like Lady in the Water... it's more of an adult Fairy Tale. Suspenseful, but definitely not Horror.

I will rent it or buy it on TV or itunes (or something). I love sci-fi, and I can take suspense. Thanks!

yeah, if you can handle the Sixth Sense, you'll be fine. Lemme know how you like it!
